WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS

DSL Astros over DSL Cardinals 5-2
LHP Geronimo Franzua, despite having one of the cooler names in the system didn't last very long in his first start of the season. After four walks and a wild pitch with only one out by Franzua, RHP Samil de los Santos came to the rescue big time pitching 5.2 innings with one hit, no runs, no walks and seven strikeouts to earn the win. RHP Yonquelys Martinez gave up two runs over 0.2 innings while LHP Javier Saucedo and RHP Johan Arias (S, 1) offered hitless relief over the final 2.1 innings. RF Tomas de la Cruz was the star of the night as he went three-for-four with a double and three RBIs.

Midland over Corpus 6-3
Jose Cisnero (L, 2-6) was charged with three earned runs in six innings pitched despite having 10 strikeouts for the night in a game that had been a pitcher's duel through the first six. All three of Cisnero's runs were inherited runners that Josh Zeid (BS, 3) allowed to score, and he added three more runs of his own for good measure as runners scored via a hit by pitch, a walk and a grand slam. Arcenio Leon was on mop up duty for the final two innings and did not allow a runner. Adam Bailey had the only extra base hit of the night, a double. Jordan Kreke went two-for-three as he came in to replace the injured Austin Wates (no word on the extent of the injury); Kody Hinze was two-for-four; and Jonathan Villar and Jair Fernandez were credited with the Hooks' only two RBIs.

San Jose over Lancaster 11-5
This wasn't exactly a banner night for JetHawks pitching as Bobby Doran (L, 5-4) and Brian Streilein combined to surrender ten runs on 13 hits over only 4.2 innings. Pat Urkfitz stopped the bloodshed in his 2.1 innings; Kirk Clark allowed a solo home run; and Brad Dydalewicz pitched an uneventful ninth. With that kind of an early deficit, it was difficult for the Lancaster offense to get much traction. Telvin Nash hit his 16th home run of the season, a solo shot; Rene Garcia was two-for-four with a double and two RBIs; and Grant Hogue and Chris Epps (in his Lancaster debut) were both two-for-four with Epps scoring a pair of runs.

Oklahoma City - Off Day

GAME OF THE DAY
Lexington over Lakewood 4-1

What went right: Delino DeShield's bat plus major league pitching from Armando Galarraga AND from Jonas Dufek.

30-year old Armando Galarraga isn't so far removed from the minor leagues that he doesn't remember the privations of minor league life. As Brandon Meredith tweeted after Wednesday's win, a steak and lobster dinner was waiting in the clubhouse courtesy of Galarraga who got his first start as an Astro with the Legends. Galarraga pitched a four inning tune-up in what is sure to be a very short stay in Lexington. Jonas Dufek, who was slated to start on Wednesday, quite frankly outpitched Galarraga over the final five to earn the win. All of Lexington's runs came in the second courtesy of a RBI single from Roberto Pena and a bases clearing triple hit by Delino Deshields.

Armando Galarraga - 4IP 4H 1R 2BB 0SO
Jonas Dufek (W, 2-1) - 5IP 3H 0R 0BB 7SO

Delino DeShields - 2x4 3B 3RBI
Mike Kvasnicka - 1x4 2B R
Roberto Pena - 2x4 RBI SO R SB

What went wrong: Nothing worth mentioning, so I won't.

PITCHER OF THE DAY
Jonas Dufek gets the love for showing Armando Galarraga a thing or two as he struck out seven while walking no batters.

PLAYER OF THE DAY
Tomas de la Cruz is my man for getting off to a good start in the DSL season, hitting .357 through the first four games.
