Round Rock 2, Oklahoma City 1

W- Justin Germano (4-10)
L- Asher Wojciechowski (0-3)

OKC home runs: None.

Our pal Carlos Peña broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer off Asher with 2 outs in the top of the 9th. Hmph.

Alex White allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 5 innings. That homer was the only hit that Wojo allowed in his 4 innings. He struck out 4.

OKC's 1 run came on an RBI single from Joe Sclafani in the 3rd. Ronald Torreyes had the other 2 RedHawks hits.

The RedHawks will now begin an 8-game roadtrip, beginning with 4 in Nashville. In the opener, Tommy Shirley will take on Taylor Jungmann at 7:05.

Midland 7, Corpus Christi 3

W- Chris Jensen (9-7)
L- Chris Devenski (2-2, 7-7 season)

CC home runs: Telvin Nash (16, 2-run in 9th)

The Hooks, now mired in a 6-game slide, saw the wheels fall off for them in the final third of the game as the RockHounds outscored them 6-2 over that juncture.

Delino DeShields went 1-4 with an RBI single in the 3rd and stole a base (42). The other 2 Corpus runs came in the form of Telvin Nash's 16th homer of the year. Carlos Perdomo went 2-4 with a run scored, and Tony Kemp finished 3-4 with a steal (7, 35 season).

Colton Cain went 4.1 and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Chris Devenski got victimized by 2 solo shots in the 7th and the 8th. He allowed 1 other hit, walked 1, and struck out 5 in 3.2 innings. R.J. Alaniz bore the brunt of the Midland assault in the 9th; he got 2 outs, but he also allowed 4 runs (3 earned), a hit, walked 4, and struck out 1. Mitch Lambson got the final out of the 9th.

Mike Hauschild will take on Sean Murphy in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:10.

Lancaster 5, Stockton 2

W- Mark Appel (2-5)
L- Seth Streich (9-6)
S- Jamaine Cotton (9)

Lancaster home runs: None.

The JetHawks were boosted by Mark Appel's best start of the season.

Appel allowed 2 runs (both in the 4th) on 5 hits and struck out 7 in 6 innings. Gonzalo Sañudo was the first man out; he allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 1.2 scoreless. Juan Minaya did allow a hit, but he recorded the final out of the 8th with no damage done. Jamaine Cotton worked around a hit to finish the game, striking out 1.

Roberto Peña opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the 3rd. One batter later, Jon Kemmer ripped an RBI double, and an error on the play also allowed him to score. Peña added another RBI single in the 8th, and Jack Mayfield had an RBI double in the 9th. Mayfield and Peña both had 2-hit nights.

In game 2 of this series, Lance McCullers will face Jake Sanchez at 9:05.

Quad Cities 4, Dayton 2

W- Chris Lee (6-5)
L- Dan Langfield (2-2)
S- Andrew Thurman (1)

QC home runs: Dayne Parker (1, 3-run in 4th)

The Bandits took the series thanks to Dayne Parker's first pro homer and a fine outing from Chris Lee.

Lee tossed 5 shutout innings and allowed 3 hits and walked 1. Andrew Thurman pitched the final 4 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3.

J.D. Davis drew a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd to put QC on the board first. Chase McDonald walked and Marc Wik singled in the 4th, and Parker sent them all home with his first home run as a professional baseball player. Wik had 2 of QC's 3 hits. The other, of course, was that home run.

The River Bandits will look for the sweep, as Jandel Gustave will take on Nick Travieso. First pitch is at 6:00.

Tri-City 14, Staten Island 0

W- Francis Ramirez (2-4)
L- Joe Harvey (0-2)

TC home runs: A.J. Reed (4, 3-run in 5th), Nick Tanielu (2, 3-run in 6th)

The ValleyCats completely obliterated the Baby Bombers in the opener as they put up 2 TDs. Everyone in the lineup had a hit except for Alfredo Gonzalez, who managed to score 2 runs. Terrell Joyce, who went 3-5 with a double, was the only member of the starting 9+1 to not score a run. Alex Hernandez appeared as a pinch-hitter and remained in the game at 2B; he went 0-1.

Mott Hyde went 3-4 with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 RBI, and 3 runs scored. He opened the floodgates with the triple, which drove in 2 in the 3rd. He would score on a D.J. Fisher RBI infield single. Hyde hit a 1-out double in the 5th and would score on an error that allowed Jose Solano to advance to 2nd. After a Fisher walk, Reed connected for his 4th home run of the season. Alfredo Gonzalez got plunked to open the bottom of the 6th, Hyde brought him home with his 2nd double of the evening. Hyde wound up scoring on another error that allowed Solano to reach. Solano was erased at 2nd, but Fisher beat a double play. A Reed double moved him to 3rd, and although Ryan Bottger struck out, Nick Tanielu delivered with a 3-run shot. In the 8th, Bottger hit an RBI double, and Tanielu brought him home with a single.

Francis Ramirez threw 5 shutout innings, allowing 2 hits, walking 3, and striking out 5. Vince Wheeland struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 6th. Randall Fant went 2 innings and allowed 2 hits while striking out 4, and Kyle Weiland worked around a hit to finish the game, striking out 1 in the 9th.

In game 2 of this series, Brandon McNitt will take on Dillon McNamara. First pitch is at 6:00. A Long Islander (McNitt) will face a Staten Islander (McNamara).

Kingsport 1, Greeneville 0

W- Martires Arias (3-0)
L- Brock Dykxhoorn (2-2)
S- David Roseboom (2)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros offense was stuck in the mud once again. This is the 4th time in the last 5 games in which they've been shut out. The difference in this game was an Ivan Wilson solo homer in the 6th, which broke the scoreless tie in Kingsport's favor.

The 2 hits belonged to Tony Nuñez and Jake Nottingham.

Dean Deetz allowed 2 hits and fanned 1 over 3 scoreless. Brock Dykxhoorn allowed the go-ahead solo homer to Wilson in the 6th. He went 3 innings and allowed 1 other hit while striking out 4. Keegan Yuhl allowed 4 hits and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless.

Greeneville will now begin a most unusual 4-game series against Bristol, which includes a doubleheader over there sandwiched between 2 home games. Agapito Barrios will get the start in the opener, which begins at 6:00.

GCL Braves 9, GCL Astros 2

W- Aldo Silva (1-1)
L- Starlyng Sanchez (0-1, 1-4 season)

GCL home runs: Arturo Michelena (1, 2-run in 4th)

Well, Arturo Michelena's first pro homer tied the game at 2, but the Braves ran off with 7 unanswered.

Michelena and Jean Estrella both finished 2-4.

Starlyng Sanchez allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 4 innings. Yhoan Acosta went 3 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits and struck out 1. Kyle Gehrs allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in the 8th.

The Kissimmee Stros are in Lakeland, where they'll take on the team directly above them in the standings. They'll face the Tigers at 11:00 A.M.

DSL Astros Blue 10, DSL Rays 2

W- Enrique Chavez (1-0)
L- Sandy Brito (1-4)

Blue home runs: Marcos Almonte (2, grand slam in 7th)

The Blue team seized all control with a 9-run 7th, capped off by Almonte's grand slam. Both of Almonte's home runs this season have been grand slams.

Jonathan Matute reached on an error that allowed Oscar Campos to score in the 5th. That run tied the game at 1. The Rays re-took the lead in the bottom of the 5th, but in the 7th, it was all Blue team. Matute hit an RBI single that tied the game at 2. Then, Rodrigo Ayarza gave them the lead with a 2-run double. Cristopher Luciano got in with an RBI single, as did Bryan De La Cruz. Almonte delivered an excellent closing munber with his grand slam.

Erasmo Pinales went 5 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. Enrique Chavez, who was added to the roster before the game, got the win in his first appearance. He allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless. Yan De La Cruz threw a 1-2-3 9th.

The Astros are currently in a game at home. They're taking on the A's.

DSL Cubs 18, DSL Astros Orange 3

W- Jeffry Hernandez (2-2)
L- Abdiel Saldaña (2-1)

Orange home runs: None.

This game was tied at 3 through 5 innings. After the 6th, the Cubs scored 15 unanswered.

Angel De Leon flew into a force out (what?) that scored Wilson Amador in the 3rd inning. Amador, who went 2-4 and scored 2 of the 3 Orange runs, hit an RBI single in the 5th and came around to score on a double from De Leon.

Edwin Villarroel went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2 solo homers), walked 1, and struck out 2. The bullpen....... struggled. Let's just leave it at that.

The Orange team is currently in a game at the Braves complex.
