Astros Minor League Playoff Picture Update

[Note: Dustin and I have both been busy with that pesky real life stuff this weekend, but Dustin will get back on track with recaps tomorrow.]

With nine days left in the minor league regular season, let's take a brief look at the Astro affiliates playoff picture. I will try to update this daily until all of the playoffs have been decided.

OKLAHOMA CITY

2nd    70-66    .515    2.0GB    W1

Playoff Picture - 8 games left; elimination number is 8

The RedHawks have put more distance between themselves and third place Iowa, but still remain two games behind first place Omaha. There are no games left between the first and second place teams this season. OKC just needs to keep winning and hope that the rest takes care of itself.

CORPUS CHRISTI

For the second half:
4th     27-34     .443     8.0GB     L2

Playoff picture - 9 games left; elimination number is 2

The Hooks are on the brink of elimination and nothing short of a miracle will help them at this point.

LANCASTER

For the season:
1st    75-57    .568    -.-GB    L1

For the second half:
T1st     31-31     .500     -.-GB     L1

Playoff Picture - 8 games left; elimination number is N/A

The 'Hawks clinched their playoff berth by winning the first half. All that remains at this point is to see whether or not they can win the second half as well. They are currently in a 3-way tie with Lake Elsinore and Inland Empire for first place in the second half standings. High Desert and Rancho Cucamonga are only two games back. The second half title is still very much up in the air. Lancaster plays five more games against Inland Empire and three against High Desert.

QUAD CITIES - Eliminated

TRI-CITY

1st     43-24     .642     -.-GB     W1

Playoff Picture - 9 games left; elimination number is N/A

The ValleyCats still maintain their eight game lead in the Stedler Divsion over second place Connecticut and have reduced their magic number to clinch the division to two games with nine left. That is what I call a comfortable margin.

GREENEVILLE

4th     30-30     .500     3.5GB     W1

Playoff picture - 6 games left; elimination number is 4

Greeneville dropped another game behind since last we checked, with Elizabethton still leading the pack. The first and second place teams will advance to the playoffs and the Appy Astros currently trail the second place team (Johnson City) by two games and the third place team (Kingsport) by one game. They are playing their next three games outside the division, but will play their final three games against second place Johnson City. The third place Kingsport Mets play their final six games against the first and second place teams in the division so there are still a lot of moving parts between now and the final regular season Appy League game on Friday.

GCL ASTROS - Eliminated

DSL ASTROS ORANGE - Eliminated

DSL ASTROS BLUE - Eliminated

  1. The VamosGatos Crew and about 100 other Valley Cats fans invaded MCU Park n Brooklyn Sat. night. Everyone enjoyed our invasion(including the team) as the Cats won 5-0. The magic #is now 2.
