Happy Birthday - 12/6

Happy Birthday to ~

RHP Franklin Perez (17)
Ranked by Baseball America as the #15 top international prospect, Perez signed with the Astros during the July 2nd international signing period. He is from Venezuela.

Two former Astros have birthdays today as well ~

LHP Jay Dahl (died June 21, 1965 at 19)
Dahl's entire major league career consisted of pitching two and a third innings for the Colt .45's at the ripe old age of 17. The game featured an all rookie line-up, including such notables as Joe Morgan, Jimmy Wynn and Rusty Staub. For the story of his all too short life, his tragic death and the aftermath, go here.

C Kevin Cash (37)
Cash signed with Houston as a free agent in January 2010 and played in 20 games for Houston, hitting .204/.271/.333, before being traded to Boston in July of that year for Angel Sanchez.

A Sampling of Astros Minor Leaguers Walk-Up Music

During the season when I was able to, I would open the SoundHound app on my phone and try to identify the walk-up music for some of our Astros minor leaguers. Unfortunately, I wrote my findings down on scraps of paper that ended up hither and thither. I finally managed to go through and write up a list of some of the walk-up music I heard throughout the season. These are in no particular order (until the end), and you can click on the image or link to hear a sample if you aren't familiar with the song

There were three songs that really stood out for me. First up, I already liked Matt Duffy, but when he walked up to a classic Led Zeppelin tune, I liked him even moreso! (A shout-out goes to Brett Booth as well for featuring a little Lynard Skynard.)

Matt Duffy - When the Levee Breaks by Led Zeppelin

Although Chris Epps isn't an Astro anymore, I really liked his walk-up song. Some of them seemed a little cookie-cutter, but his stood out with enough funk to appeal to someone like me who was alive and listening to music in the 70's.

Chris Epps - Here I Go by Mystikal

Here I Go (Clean)

But one stood out above all of the rest. When I went to Corpus Christi for the first time in April this year, people in the crowd would actually giggle when Leo Heras walked up. My trusty SoundHound app couldn't identify the song so I asked Leo what it was. He didn't tell me the song, but the style is Mexican Banda music. Whether you love it or hate it, you've got to admit that it is different!
