Tacoma 4, Oklahoma City 3 in 11 innings

W- Todd Coffey (2-0)
L- Andrew Robinson (0-2, 4-4 season)

OKC home runs: None.

The RedHawks walked off with the loss in the series opener after our old friend Humberto Quintero lined the game-winning single to right field.

How about Kiké Hernandez... he's on a 4-game hitting streak after going 2-4 with a double. All of 4 of them have been multi-hit games. He's got hits in 10 of his last 11 contests, and 9 of those have been multi-hit games. He's simply been on another level at the plate this month, hitting .384/.419/.605 with 4 homers and 10 RBI.

Matt Duffy tripled with 1 out in the 2nd and scored the 1st run of the evening on a sac fly from Carlos Perez. Austin Wates hit an RBI single in the 5th and then stole 2nd (19). An error on the play allowed Ronald Torreyes to score. Hernandez was the only RedHawk with a multi-hit game.

Brett Oberholtzer went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs, and all of them came off home runs. He allowed a solo homer to a rehabbing Michael Saunders in the 3rd and a 2-run homer to Q in the 7th. Obie allowed 5 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Jose Veras, in his return to the Astros organization, worked around a hit and a walk to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 2. Andrew Robinson pitched 2.2 innings and allowed the winning run (which was unearned) on 3 hits and struck out 5.

In game 2 of this series, Nick Tropeano will face Jordan Pries. First pitch is at 3:35.

Frisco 3, Corpus Christi 0

W- Alec Asher (7-5)
L- Mike Hauschild (1-3, 3-4 season)
S- Phil Klein (10)

CC home runs: None.

@@#$#%%#%^%^&%^$!!!!!!

Mike Hauschild was having a magnificent start and then Pat Cantwell, Trever Adams, and Joey Gallo had to go ruin the whole bleeping thing. Hauschild allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5 over 7 innings. He was perfect through 6, and then Cantwell broke it up with a single to open the 7th. Adams hit another single, and then Gallo took him deep to break the scoreless tie. That 3-batter stretch turned into the scoreline you see above. F you, Frisco.

Tyson Perez struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 8th, and Alex Sogard fanned 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

The Hooks outhit the Roughriders 7-3, but that doesn't count towards the W-L column. Carlos Perdomo and Tyler Heineman had 2 hits apiece; Heineman's double was the Hooks' only extra-base hit.

Luis Cruz will get the start in the series finale. He'll take on Edwar Cabrera at 6:10.

Lake Elsinore 7, Lancaster 5

W- Chris Nunn (3-1)
L- Dan Minor (4-2)
S- Brandon Alger (4)

Lancaster home runs: Conrad Gregor (5, 6 season; 2-run in 6th)

This game was marred by an injury to Carlos Correa. He left the game after injuring his right leg while sliding into 3rd base. Initially, the fear was that he broke his fibula, but the outlook may be slightly more positive.

That was me exhaling a little.

As for the game itself, the JetHawks scored 4 in the 6th to break a scoreless tie, but the Storm hit back for 7 unanswered, which included a 6-run 7th.

Correa opened the scoring with the play in which he hurt himself: an RBI triple. Brandon Meredith added an RBI single, and then Gregor clubbed a 2-run shot. Gregor tripled to lead off the 8th and scored on a single from Roberto Peña, who extended his hitting streak to 14 games. The two of them, along with Tanner Mathis, had 2-hit nights. Teoscar Hernandez went 3-5 with a double and a run scored.

Chris Devenski went 6 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits (solo homer), walked 1, and struck out 3. Dan Minor pitched the 7th and in addition to allowing the 2 runners he inherited from Devenski to score, he gave up 3 of his own on 3 hits and struck out 1. Juan Minaya struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 8th.

After 10 days of rest, Mark Appel will get the start in the series finale. He'll face Coby Cowgill at 7:05.

Peoria 9, Quad Cities 2

W- Blake McKnight (3-6)
L- Kevin Comer (0-1)

QC home runs: None.

The River Bandits were buried by a 6-run 3rd. They got 2 back, but the Chiefs put them away with 2 in the 4th and one more in the 5th.

Kevin Comer lasted just 2.1 innings and allowed 6 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1. Chris Cotton went 2.2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Adrian Houser restored some sense of order to this game with 4 scoreless innings. He allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2.

James Ramsay got QC on the board with an RBI triple in the 3rd and scored one batter later, on a Chan-Jong Moon groundout. Jon Kemmer led off the inning with a double and scored on Ramsay's triple.

In the series finale, Andrew Thurman will take on Rob Kaminsky at 5:00.

Well..... it was a rather tough night for the full-season clubs. How did the short-season teams fare?

Tri-City 11, Lowell 0

W- Troy Scribner (1-0)
L- Randy Perez (0-1)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats got even as they completely decimated the Spinners to set up a rubber game.

5 pitchers combined on a 3-hitter. Troy Scribner started it off with 5 shutout innings and allowed just 1 hit, walked 1, and struck out 4. Krishawn Holley was the first man out; he worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 6th. Vince Wheeland, in his professional debut, threw a 1-2-3 7th. Jordan Mills allowed the final Lowell hit in a scoreless 8th inning, and Randall Fant finished it with a 1-2-3 9th.

Ravel Santana kicked off the scoring in the 2nd when he smashed an RBI triple. He scored one batter later, when Jamie Ritchie hit a double to bring him home. Jose Solano, who led off the 2nd with a double and finished 3-4 with 2 RBI, hit another double that scored A.J. Reed in the 2nd. He would add an RBI single in the 5th. Ritchie walked to begin the 8th and scored on a triple from Mott Hyde, who scored on a single from Marc Wik. J.D. Davis added a single, and Ricky Gingras capped off the scoring in the inning with a sac fly. Hyde hit into a force out in the 9th and the ensuing error allowed Santana to score, and Reed brought home the ValleyCats' final 2 runs with his 3rd hit of the night, a single. Ritchie had a perfect night at the plate as he reached base in all 4 of his plate appearances; he was 3-3 with 2 doubles and a walk.

In the series finale, Sebastian Kessay will take on Dioscar Romero at 2:05.

Greeneville 6, Elizabethton 5

W- Angel Heredia (1-0)
L- Josue Montañez (0-1)
S- Eric Peterson (1)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros got into the win column for the first time this season as they seized the lead with 6 unanswered, erasing a 4-0 deficit in the process.

Sean McMullen got Greeneville on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd. They would tie the game with 3 RBI singles from (in order) Trent Woodward, Jake Nottingham, and Ydarqui Marte. In the 8th, Luis Reynoso gave the Appy Astros the lead with an RBI single, and an error on the play allowed Nottingham to score a critical insurance run. Marte went 3-4, while Reynoso finished 2-4. Nottingham scored twice.

Gerardo Juarez went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Keegan Yuhl threw 2 perfect innings and struck out 1. Angel Heredia allowed 3 hits and struck out 1 over 2 scoreless, and Eric Peterson gave up a run on 2 hits in the 9th, but he was able to right the ship and close out Greeneville's first win of the year. McMullen had a hand in that, as he sprawled out to make the game-ending catch to deny Nick Gordon.

Greeneville will now begin a 3-game series against the Princeton Rays. In the opener, Jose Montero will take on Laredo native Roel Ramirez. First pitch is at 5:00.

GCL Astros 6, GCL Braves 3

W- Alejandro Solarte (1-0)
L- Jordany Santana (0-1)
S- Juan Delis (1)

GCL home runs: None.

The Kissimmee Stros swept the Braves in the home-and-away set by doubling them up once again. They scored the game's first 5 runs, and got a vital insurance run to keep the Braves at bay.

Jake Bowey went 2-4 with a double and kicked things off with an RBI single in the 2nd. Randy Cesar added an RBI single of his own in the 3rd, and they got 3 in the 4th on an Arturo Michelena RBI single, and then Edwin Medina grounded into a force out that allowed Bowey to score. The GCL has Sunday off.
