Happy Birthday - 5/10

No future Astros with birthdays today, but three former Astros mark the day ~

C Merritt Ranew (died October 18, 2011 at 73)
Drafted by Houston from Milwaukee in the 1961 expansion draft, Ranew played in 71 games for the Colt .45's in 1962 before being traded to the Cubs in March of 1963. Check out this very interesting story about Ranew being hit on the head with a bat during an in-game fracas during his time in the Seattle Pilots system.

LHP Pete Schourek (45)
A second round signing by the Mets in 1987, Shourek started 15 games for Houston in 1998, with a 7-6 record, a 4.50 ERA and a 1.475 WHIP. He came in second in Cy Young voting to Greg Maddux in 1995.

CF Glen Barker (43)
Barker came to Houston as a Rule 5 pick from Detroit in 1998. In 235 games played for the Astros in 1998 through 2000, Barker only had 197 plate appearances with a .232/.330/.323 batting line.
