STANDINGS

Collectively, all of the Astros MiLB affiliates went 33-30 over the last eight days. The biggest news is that Fresno, going 6-2 during that period, went from a tie with Reno (D'Backs) to first place, two games in front of Reno. On the other side of the coin, Quad Cities (2-5) dropped to second place, one-half game behind the very hot Beloit (A's) team. Corpus Christi (3-5) remains in second place, but have dropped another game behind San Antonio (Padres) in the second half standings with the third and fourth place teams nipping at their heels. Buies Creek is 4-4 in their last eight games and remains in roughly the same position as last report; however, second place is now occupied by Carolina (Brewers), with that team trailing by six.

All of the short season teams managed at least a .500 record over the last eight days. Greeneville (5-3) remains in second place, but the Elizabethton Twins have been padding their lead with a 5-game win streak. Tri-City (4-3) is still in third place, but have picked up a game on the leader. The GCL Astros have gone 3-3 since last report which has been good enough to keep them in second place, but not enough to keep them from falling further behind the GCL Nationals, owners of a 7-game win streak. Both the DSL Astros Orange team (3-3) and the Blue team (3-2) have improved their standings a tiny bit, but are in roughly the same position as last report; with that said, the Orange team did go from 8th place to 7th place, so there's that.

FORMER ASTROS FARM HAND UPDATES

RHP Troy Scribner, traded to the Angels in March 2016 for cash considerations, is the latest Friend of the Blog to make his major league debut. Signed by the Astros in June 2013 as a non-drafted free agent out of Sacred Heart University (CT), Scribner bucked the odds by not only making it to the bigs, but also earning a win in his first appearance. I interviewed Scribner in late July 2014 (and I more or less predicted that he would make it). Congratulations to Troy!!

RHP Aaron West, released by the Astros in July, was quickly picked up by the Mariner's organization and has been assigned to their AA Arkansas affiliate. West was first drafted by the Astros in the 17th round in 2012 and quickly became a fan favorite. We at WTHB wish Aaron nothing by the best.
