STANDINGS

Collectively, all of the Astros MiLB affiliates went 30-27 over the last week. Fresno had been on a torrid pace and had started to pull ahead of Reno (D'Backs), but their 1-5 record over the past week has put them back in a tie for first with that team. Corpus Christi's 2-3 week still sees them in second place for the second half (behind San Antonio), but has dropped them from four games behind the Padres affiliate to six games behind. Buies Creek, 4-1 for the week, has further solidified their first place standing; they are now seven games ahead of the second place team (currently Winston-Salem, a White Sox affiliate). And last of the full season affiliates, but certainly not least, Quad Cities has been on quite a roll and have won seven straight. That 7-0 week has put the River Bandits back in the driver's seat; they are back in first place for the second half, four games in front of second place Peoria (Cardinals).

The short season teams were a mixed bag for the week. Tri-City (5-2) had the best week and has moved into second place, only one and a half games behind division-leading Vermont (A's), but only one-half game ahead of Connecticut (Tigers). Greeneville's 2-3 week was enough to maintain their second place standing, three games behind the Elizabethton Twins. The GCL 'Stros (2-4 for the week) remain in second place behind the GCL Nationals, but their lackluster week dropped them a game further behind that team. The DSL Astros Orange team (3-5) is back in the basement while the Blue team (4-4) has dropped from third place to fourth in their division.

RECENT INTERVIEWS

In case you've missed any of these, I've been rolling out all of the interviews from my recent Quad Cities trip. Check them out! (If you're so inclined.)

FORMER ASTROS FARM HAND UPDATE

Another former Astros farmhand has shown up in affiliated play, in the Diamondbacks system. RHP Kevin McCanna was drafted by the Astros in the 13th round out of Rice University in 2015. After being released by the Astros out of Spring Training this year, McCanna signed with the Sioux City Explorers in the American Association, an independent league, where he compiled a 2.95 ERA, a 1.487 WHIP and a 5-0 record in 27 appearances. McCanna was picked up by the Diamondbacks on August 3rd and went 5.1 hitless innings and earned the win in his first appearance with the short season A Hillsboro Hops in the Northwest League.
