Happy Minor League Opening Day!

Well... every team in the system lost.

Reno 10, Fresno 2

W- Braden Shipley (1-0)
L- Mike Hauschild (0-1)

Fresno home runs: None.

Fresno fell behind 7-0 after two innings and were never in this one.

Drew Ferguson finished 3-4 with a double and scored on a Tyler White single in the 6th. Garrett Stubbs tripled to lead off the 7th and scored on Tony Kemp's sac fly. Kyle Tucker went 2-4 and drew a walk in his AAA debut.

Mike Hauschild got roughed up and I'll leave it at that. Andrew Thome was the first reliever to appear and in 1.2 innings, he allowed a 2-run homer to Yasmany Tomás, one other hit, walked 1, and struck out 1. James Hoyt worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th. Matt Ramsey allowed a run on 2 hits and fanned 1 in two innings, and Cy Sneed worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 1.

Trent Thornton will start game 2 of this series. He'll take on Taylor Clarke at 6:35 Pacific.

Northwest Arkansas 5, Corpus Christi 4

W- Franco Terrero (1-0)
L- Riley Ferrell (0-1)

CC home runs: None.

The Naturals stole the season opener from right under the Hooks as they scored twice in the 8th to tie and walked off with the win with two outs in the 9th.

Yuli Gurriel went 2-4 and drove in Corpus Christi's first run of the night with an RBI double in the 3rd inning. Myles Straw walked to start the 5th and advanced to third on an error that allowed Yuli to advance to second base. Jamie Ritchie followed with a sac fly. Yuli then moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a Nick Tanielu double. In the 6th, Yuli added an RBI single to his ledger. Tanielu also finished with two hits on the evening.

Framber Valdez shook off a two-run homer from Samir Dueñez and threw five solid innings. He allowed two other hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Josh James was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 7 in 3 innings. Riley Ferrell got two outs in the 9th, both via strikeout. Unfortunately, to complete an inning, a pitcher (or pitchers) must record three outs. Ferrell did not do that; he walked the bases loaded and allowed a walk-off single to Elier Hernandez.

Brock Dykxhoorn faces Zach Lovvorn in game 2 of this season-opening series. First pitch is set for 7:05.

Salem 4, Buies Creek 3

W- Roniel Raudes (1-0)
L- Jorge Alcala (0-1)
S- Daniel Gonzalez (1)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros couldn't quite overcome an early 3-1 deficit after the opening frame.

Jorge Alcala got the starting nod on Opening Night for Buies Creek and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Kit Scheetz and Abdiel Saldaña kept the Red Sox off the board for the final five innings. Scheetz allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 4 in his two innings of work, while Saldaña allowed 3 hits and fanned 1.

Ronnie Dawson walked to start the game. He ended up getting thrown out at home on a Josh Rojas single, but Rojas moved to third base thanks to an error and scored the first run of Buies Creek's season on an Abraham Toro sac fly. Osvaldo Duarte tripled to lead off the 3rd and Dawson followed by drawing another walk. Dawson's tough night on the bases continued when he got caught stealing, but Duarte seized the opportunity and scored while Salem was preoccupied with getting Dawson at second base. Toro walked to start the 6th and came all the way around to score on a Chas McCormick triple. Troy Sieber ripped a couple of doubles in four trips to the plate.

Hector Perez will start game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 2, Quad Cities 0

W- Jared Finkel (1-0)
L- Patrick Sandoval (0-1)
S- Ryan Mason (1)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos' defense of their Midwest League championship... did not start out the way they expected.

Jonathan Arauz finished 2-4, while Mike Papierski's double was the River Bandits' lone extra-base hit in this game.

Patrick Sandoval pitched 4 innings and allowed both Cedar Rapids runs, one of which came on a solo homer. Sandoval allowed 4 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Adam Bleday was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and recorded a strikeout in a 1-2-3 5th inning. César Rosado was next, and he allowed just one hit and struck out 2 in 3.2 scoreless innings, although he also issued 5 walks in the process. Robert Corniel got the final out of the 9th with a strikeout.

Game 2 of this series is scheduled to start at 6:35. Tyler Ivey takes the mound for Quad Cities, and he'll face Edwar Colina.
