Once again, the pitching shone on Thursday. Could the offenses break through and back up their guys on the mound?
Answer: Yes.
So for the first time this season, every Astros affiliate won their game!
Fresno 5, Tacoma 3
W- Cy Sneed (1-0)
L- Erasmo Ramirez (0-1)
Fresno home runs: None.
Things got a bit harrowing in the 9th, but the Grizzlies were able to escape with the victory and the series.
Cy Sneed threw 5 shutout innings for the win, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 4. Reymin Guduan and Andrew Thome both threw two innings. Guduan allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 3 in a scoreless appearance, while Thome threw a 1-2-3 8th and then it got dicey for him in the 9th when Tacoma scored three runs off of him with a 2-run triple and a groundout. Fortunately, he was able to right the ship and finished the game. In all, Thome allowed 3 runs, a single along with the triple, walked 1, and struck out 1 in his two innings of work.
Tyler White opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Drew Ferguson ripped a 2-run double in the 5th. He doubled again in the 7th and came around to score on a Kyle Tucker single. Little Tuck, who advanced to third on the ensuing error, scored on an A.J. Reed single. Reed went 3-4 and also had a double, while both of Ferguson's hits went for doubles.
Francis Martes will look to rebound from a rough debut tonight as Fresno opens up a four-game series with Reno at 7:05 Pacific. He'll be opposed by Matt Koch.
Corpus Christi 5, Northwest Arkansas 2

CC home runs: None.
Corpus broke a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs after stretch time and got an 8th-inning insurance run to emerge with the win in their home opener.
Framber Valdez allowed 2 runs on 10 hits (8 singles and 2 doubles) and struck out 5 in 5.1 innings of work. Ralph Garza shut it down with 3.2 scoreless, allowing just one hit while striking out 5.
Yordan Alvarez opened the scoring by drawing a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd inning. After the Naturals scored twice in the top of the 4th to take the lead, Alex De Goti ripped an RBI double in the bottom of the inning to tie the game. De Goti doubled again to lead off the 7th and scored the go-ahead run on a single from Stephen Wrenn. Alvarez got a free pass to first base, but Taylor Jones came through with an RBI single to bring Wrenn home. De Goti singled with two outs in the 8th, advanced on a balk, and scored the final run of the night on a Myles Straw single.
De Goti was the only player in the Hooks lineup with a multi-hit game as he went 3-4 and had a hand in three of their five runs. Straw stole his 7th base of the season to go along with his RBI single.
Ryan Hartman will go up against Scott Blewett in the middle game of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.
Buies Creek 6, Salem 3

Buies Creek stormed out to a 6-0 lead after the 2nd inning and that margin managed to hold up. The Carolina Stros only had four hits, but they took advantage of some horrid defense from the Red Sox in the early going.
Brandon Bielak got a measure of revenge against the Red Sox, who walked off with a win against him on Opening Night. He allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8 over 5 shutout innings. Hector Perez and Ronel Blanco both pitched two innings with contrasting results. Perez couldn't replicate what he did to Salem on Opening Night as he allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3. Blanco walked 2 and struck out 3 in his outing to earn the save.
Ronnie Dawson led off the bottom of the 1st with a walk, stole second base, advanced to third on an error, and scored the first run of the evening on another error when Josh Rojas stole second. Abraham Toro, who was batting at the time, wound up ripping an RBI double, and he would end up trotting home on an Osvaldo Duarte triple. Duarte scored on a Troy Sieber groundout. Rojas smacked an RBI triple in the 2nd inning and ended up with a Little League home run thanks to an error on the play.
Carson LaRue will start game 2 of this series. He'll face Darwinzon Hernandez at 7:00 Eastern.
Quad Cities 5, Kane County 2

A fast start also held up for the Banditos as they earned the split in their first home series of 2018.
Jonathan Arauz singled to lead off the 1st, moved to third on a Corey Julks double, and scored the first run of the game on a Jake Adams groundout. One batter later, Julks scored on Adrian Tovalin's groundout. Arauz ripped a 2-run double in the 2nd inning and Tovalin grounded into a force out that allowed Julks to score. Bryan De La Cruz finished 3-4, while Arauz went 2-4; he has hits in five of the first six games he's played. Julks had a double, scored twice, and stole his first two bases of the season.
Patrick Sandoval allowed 5 hits and struck out 5 over 5.1 shutout innings. Carlos Sanabria was the first man out of the Quad Cities bullpen and went 2.2 innings, allowing an RBI double, walking 1, and striking out 5. Colin McKee allowed a run on 2 hits and struck out 1 in the 9th.
Peter Solomon will start the first of a three-game weekend series in Burlington. He'll take on Luis Madero at 6:30.
