Results for Sunday, April 21, 2019

Memphis 5, Round Rock 3 in 10 innings

W- Jesus Cruz (1-0)
L- Cy Sneed (0-2)

RR home runs: Yordan Alvarez (9, solo in 4th), Garrett Stubbs (2, solo in 8th)

The Express tied the game with a couple of runs in the 8th inning... only to see the Redbirds walk off with the win in the first extra frame.

Yordan Alvarez put Round Rock on the board with a solo shot in the 4th inning. Garrett Stubbs led off the 8th with a homer and then Alvarez tied the game with an RBI double. Alvarez and Myles straw both finished with two hits on the afternoon.

Forrest Whitley and Cy Sneed both pitched 4.2 innings. Whitley allowed a run on two hits, walked two, and struck out five, while Sneed allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits, including the walk-off two-run homer in the 10th, and struck out five.

Brady Rodgers will take on Genesis Cabrera in the finale of this series. First pitch is at 11:05 AM.

Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks will welcome the Northwest Arkansas Naturals to the Coastal Bend for a three-game series starting tonight at 6:15.

Carolina 6, Fayetteville 5

W- Matt Hardy (4-0)
L- Joey Gonzalez (0-1)
S- Rodrigo Benoit (5)

Fayetteville home runs: Michael Papierski (1, solo in 5th), Colton Shaver (3, solo in 9th)

The Woodpeckers scored in more innings, but the problem was that they scored one run in each of those innings. The Mudcats, on the other hand, were able to put up a couple of crooked numbers. And so... the first series in the history of SEGRA Stadium ended in a split.

Scott Manea put the Woodpeckers on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd inning. Jake Meyers drove in a run with a single in the 3rd, and then Michael Papierski smacked a solo homer in the 5th. Papierski scored on Corey Julks' base hit in the 7th and Colton Shaver whacked a homer in the 9th to cut the deficit to one run. Julks struck out but reached first base safely to extend the game. Unfortunately, Meyers grounded into a double play to end the afternoon. Papierski and Shaver scored two runs apiece; no one in the lineup had more than one hit.

Parker Mushinski went four innings and the two runs he allowed came on a homer hit by Eddie Silva in the 2nd inning; only one of the runs was earned. Mushinski allowed two other hits and struck out nine. Joey Gonzalez and Hunter Martin pitched 2.1 innings apiece; Gonzalez was first and he allowed four runs on five hits (solo and three-run homers) and struck out two. Martin turned in a scoreless outing, walking two and striking out four. Leovanny Rodriguez got the final out of the 9th.

After having Monday off, the Woodpeckers will start a three-game series with Frederick on Tuesday.

Quad Cities was off

The River Bandits will return to Peoria as the road team this time as they start a three-game series with the Chiefs at 6:35.
