OK, I'm over the Rockets. The dumb thing is that in October, I'll be back. How is sports fanhood not listed in the DSM?

Well, a rainout in Frederick and... we already know what happened with Quad Cities, meant that only the upper-level affiliates were in action on Friday.

Saturday: Let's play two in Frederick!

Friday's games first.

Friday: Round Rock 8, Omaha 7

W- Cy Sneed (1-4)
L- Zach Lovvorn (1-2)

RR home runs: Kyle Tucker (10, solo in 5th), A.J. Reed (1, solo in 5th)

The Express staved off a late Omaha rally to escape with the win on Friday.

Forrest Whitley's struggles continued as he allowed three more home runs; two solos and a three-run shot. He's allowed seven homers this season; he allowed seven home runs in the last two seasons combined. Those homers constituted all five of the runs he allowed in his 3.2 innings. Overall, Whitley allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out five.

Cy Sneed pitched 5.1 innings and the one blemish on his line was a two-run homer hit by Jorge Bonifacio (his second of the game) in the 9th that cut Round Rock's lead to one run. In all, Sneed allowed six hits, including the homer, walked two, and struck out two.

Round Rock opened the scoring in the 1st on a pair of RBI singles from Yordan Alvarez and Kyle Tucker and then three more runs in the 2nd thanks to an RBI double from Garrett Stubs and a two-run double from Alvarez. They got back-to-back homers from Tucker and A.J. Reed to lead off the 5th, so the only thing that ended up missing was a pair of run-scoring triples. Myles Straw scored Round Rock's final run on an error in the 8th following a Jack Mayfield infield single.

Alvarez and Tucker both finished with three hits on Friday; Straw (3 BB, 2 R), Drew Ferguson (R, SB), and Garrett Stubbs (2B, RBI, 2 BB) all had two hits.

Friday: Corpus Christi 9, Amarillo 2

CC home runs: Abraham Toro (6, 2-run in 4th), Osvaldo Duarte (6, solo in 5th)

The Hooks busted this game open with four in the 4th and three in the 5th to take a 9-1 lead.

José Hernández-Urquidy pitched five innings and allowed a run on two hits and struck out six. Bryan Abreu is probably tired of Tulsa already; his other two appearances since joining the Hooks have been against the Drillers they've gotten to him both times. This time though, he managed to keep the Sod Poodles at bay. In three innings, he allowed a run on a solo homer, two other hits, walked one, and struck out four. Brendan Feldmann worked around a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Abraham Toro ripped a two-run double in the 1st inning to open the scoring. Ronnie Dawson, who scored one of the runs on Toro's two-bagger, hit a two-run single in the 4th and one batter later, Toro launched a two-run homer. In the 5th, Carmen Benedetti smacked an RBI triple and scored on Aníbal Sierra's sac fly. One batter later, Osvaldo Duarte whacked a solo homer. Dawson, Toro, and Lorenzo Quintana all finished with three hits on Friday; Duarte and Chas McCormick had two hits apiece.

And now, Saturday's games.

Saturday: Round Rock 3, Oklahoma City 2

W- Ryan Hartman (5-0)
L- Justin Grimm (0-3)
S- Brendan McCurry (3)

RR home runs: None.

Both teams scored in two innings, but the difference here was Round Rock scoring twice in the 5th.

Ryan Hartman shook off a couple of solo homers to turn in a solid outing. In five innings, he allowed two other hits, walked three, and struck out four. Ralph Garza Jr. was the first man out of the Express bullpen and he turned in three scoreless, allowing a hit, walking one, and striking out four. Brendan McCurry worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out one.

Nick Tanielu finished 2-3 with a double and drove in all three of Round Rock's runs in this game: he drew a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd and put the Express in front with a two-run single. Derek Fisher and Myles Straw also finished with two hits on the night.

Corpus Christi 2, Amarillo 1 in 10 innings

L- Travis Radke (2-1)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks' pitchers put on an absolute show and their efforts did not go unrewarded as they ended up walking off with the victory.

Corpus Christi's pitchers struck out a franchise-record 19 in this game. Brett Adcock started it off with seven in three innings; he allowed two hits and walked four. Colin McKee had four in two innings. He allowed a run on two hits, one of which was a solo homer that represented Amarillo's only scoring play. Tyler Ivey returned from suspension and struck out eight in five innings; he also issued two walks and hit a batter.

Osvaldo Duarte ripped an RBI double in the 3rd to open the scoring. Josh Rojas started the 10th in scoring position; he moved to third on a Chuckie Robinson groundout and scored the winning run on Carmen Benedetti's single. Duarte finished 2-4 and was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game.

Carson LaRue goes up against Emmanuel Ramirez as the Hooks look for the sweep. First pitch is at 2:15; this will be their last 2:15 Sunday game of the season.

Saturday Game 1: Frederick 3, Fayetteville 2

W- Diogenes Almengo (2-1)
L- Tanner Duncan (0-1, 1-1 season)

Fayetteville home runs: Seth Beer (8, solo in 1st)

The Woodpeckers scored one in the top of the 7th to tie the game at 2... only to walk off with the loss in game one.

Seth Beer clubbed a solo homer in the 1st to open the scoring and Corey Julks hit a sac fly in the 7th. Miguelangel Sierra went 2-3 from the bottom of the order.

Parker Mushinski allowed two runs on five hits, walked one, and struck out three over six innings. The Keys scored the winning run off Tanner Duncan with a two-out, bases-loaded single in the 7th. Duncan allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out one.

Saturday Game 2: Frederick 3, Fayetteville 2

L- Willy Collado (0-2, 1-2 season)

Fayetteville home runs: Jonathan Arauz (2, 2-run in 4th)

The Woodpeckers were swept in the twinbill, walking off with losses in both games by the same scoreline. This game can be dumb, it can be cruel, and sometimes it can be both. Fayetteville has lost four games in walk-off fashion this season.

Jonathan Arauz's two-run blast in the 4th was Fayetteville's only scoring play in game two. Their only other hit in game two was a single from Alfredo Angarita.

J.P. France pitched 4.1 innings and allowed a run on two hits, walked four, and struck out eight. Frederick scored twice off Willy Collado in the 7th to walk off with the win in game two. Collado pitched 2.1 innings and allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Chad Donato will get the start as the Woodpeckers look to avoid another sweep. First pitch is at 1:00 Eastern.
