Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Monday, June 17, 2019

The Astros' upper-level affiliates did battle with their counterparts from the Mariners while the A teams are on their All-Star breaks.

Tacoma 3, Round Rock 2

W- Reggie McClain (2-1)
L- Brandon Bielak (0-3, 3-3 season)
S- Parker Markel (5)

RR home runs: None.

The E-Train rallied but fell short. They held the Rainiers to just four hits but they lost in the column that ultimately matters.

Both of their runs came in the 8th as Drew Ferguson clubbed an RBI triple and then scored on A.J. Reed's groundout. Alex De Goti was hit by a pitch and José Altuve and Taylor Jones drew walks in the 9th, but they were all stranded to end the game. Ferguson finished 3-5 with a couple of triples, while Altuve smacked a triple of his own.

Brandon Bielak went six innings and the one run he allowed came on a solo homer hit by John Andreoli. He allowed two other hits, walked three, and struck out five. Brendan McCurry got the 7th and the one hit he allowed was a two-run homer that came off Andreoli's bat. McCurry, who was just activated from the IL, also walked one and struck out two. Ralph Garza Jr. struck out five over two perfect innings.

Akeem Bostick will face Sean Nolin in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 7, Arkansas 1

L- Nabil Crismatt (2-5)

CC home runs: Osvaldo Duarte (8, 2-run in 8th)

Brandon Bailey had a stellar outing as the Hooks had their way to open a new series.

Bailey allowed just two hits, walked one, and struck out eight over five shutout innings. The bullpen got the last 12 outs of this game; Collin McHugh, Tommy DeJuneas, and Colin McKee recorded four apiece. McHugh was first and he allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out two. DeJuneas allowed a hit, walked two, and fanned two, while McKee allowed a hit and fanned two.

Abraham Toro opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st inning. He struck again in the 3rd with an RBI double and he came around to score on Seth Beer's RBI single. Aníbal Sierra hit a groundout in the 6th that Ronnie Dawson and then an error on the play also allowed Osvaldo Duarte to come home with another run. Duarte capped off the evening by launching a two-run homer in the 8th. De La Cruz and Toro both finished with three hits on the night and they both ripped a pair of doubles.

Tonight's game marks the beginning of the second half in the Texas League. J.B. Bukauskas will take on Justus Sheffield at 6:15.

Carolina League All-Star Break

The 2019 Carolina League All-Star Game will take place tonight in Frederick, Maryland.

Fayetteville kicks off the second half on Thursday in Myrtle Beach.

Midwest League All-Star Break

The 2019 Midwest League All-Star Game will take place tonight in South Bend, Indiana.

Quad Cities returns to action on Thursday in Beloit.

Tri-City 2, Staten Island 1 (10 innings)

TC home runs: Yeuris Ramirez (1, solo in 9th)

The ValleyCats entered the win column for the first time in 2019 by walking off with one in their home opener.

Guadalupe Chavez allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out five in five shutout innings of work. Jervic Chavez allowed the Yankees' only run when he threw a wild pitch in the 7th. In three innings, Chavez also walked three and struck out two. Hansel Paulino allowed a hit and struck out two in two innings.

Tri-City couldn't get anything across until Yeuris Ramirez tied the game by smacking a home run to lead off the 9th. Joe Perez started the 10th in scoring position but Deury Carrasco replaced him. Carrasco moved to third on Juan Paulino's groundout and scored the winning run on a wild pitch. Ramirez finished 2-4 on the night with a stolen base, his first of the season. In his first professional game, Korey Lee went 0-4.

Manny Ramirez will start the opener of a three-game series in Aberdeen. First pitch is at 7:05 Eastern.

DSL Marlins 10, DSL Astros 9


W- Yeuris Jimenez (1-0)
L- Ronny Garcia (2-1)
S- Josan Mendez (2)

DSL home runs: None.

The Marlins came out on top in a wild start. The Dominican 'Stros eventually fought back to tie, but the Marlins wound up regaining control.

Ricardo León, Edinson Batista, and Ronny Garcia all struggled, but Misael Tamarez allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out five over three scoreless innings. Luis Vega allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless 9th.

Yohander Martinez was caught stealing in the 1st inning but his sacrifice did not go unrewarded as Andrés Monzón took advantage and scored. Martinez hit an RBI single in the 3rd and then scored on a wild pitch. Ricardo Toro delivered the big hit of the day in the form of a bases-clearing double. Monzón scored on a wild pitch in the 4th and Martinez scored another run on a double from Cristian Gonzalez.

Martinez finished 3-3 on the day and reached in all of his plate appearances; he also drew a couple of walks and ended up stealing a base, after all. He now has eight stolen bases this season. Monzón scored three runs. Toro finished 2-4.

The Astros will face the Royals 1 at 11:30 AM Atlantic.
