Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Wednesday, June 19, 2019

A league-wide off day in the Pacific Coast League and the A teams on the last day of their All-Star breaks meant that there was a light slate on the farm.

Round Rock was off

The E-Train makes a stop in Iowa for a four-game series. José Urquidy will start game one and he'll take on Matt Swarmer at 7:08.

Arkansas 7, Corpus Christi 3

W- Justin Dunn (5-3)
L- Layne Henderson (1-2)

CC home runs: None.

The Travelers took control with three runs in the 6th and three more in the 7th.

Bryan Abreu went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs on five hits, walked one, and struck out six. Layne Henderson got the last two outs of the 6th and the first out of the 7th, but he bore the brunt of the Travs' assault, although he wasn't on the mound for most of it. Henderson allowed four runs (three inherited runners charged to him) on three hits, walked three, and struck out two. Carlos Sanabria and Colin McKee got four outs apiece; Sanabria allowed a hit and walked four and McKee allowed a solo homer and struck out two.

Chuckie Robinson hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning to open the scoring. Max Stassi drove in another run in the 3rd with a groundout and Granden Goetzman hit an RBI single in the 6th.

George Springer is expected to begin his rehab assignment as the Hooks begin a four-game series with Springfield at 6:15. Cristian Javier takes on Tommy Parsons.

Fayetteville was off

The Woodpeckers will begin the second half with a four-game series in Myrtle Beach tonight at 7:05 Eastern.

Quad Cities was off

The Banditos return to action with a four-game set in Beloit at 6:30. Cody Deason gets the start in game one.

Aberdeen 12, Tri-City 6

L- Jayson Schroeder (0-1, 0-2 season)

TC home runs: None.

The Ironbirds busted this game open with four runs in the 3rd and then put the ValleyCats away with five more runs in the 7th.

Korey Lee drove in his first run as a pro with a groundout in the 1st inning. Nathan Perry grounded into a force out in the 3rd and an error on the play allowed Deury Carrasco to score. In the 8th, Perry ripped an RBI double and he scored on an infield single from Hector Martinez. A wild pitch allowed Zach Biermann to score another run and Joe Perez hit an RBI single in the 9th. Carrasco finished 2-5 and scored on the error in the 3rd.

Jayson Schroeder went 2.1 innings and allowed six runs (four earned) on three hits, walked six, and struck out five. Luis de Paula was the first man out of the bullpen; his first task was to get Schroeder out of a bases-loaded jam without incurring any further damage and he did so successfully. In 2.2 innings, de Paula two hits, walked one, and struck out three. Christian Mejias went 1.2 innings and allowed five runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on three hits, walked two, and struck out one. Miguel Figueroa allowed a run on four hits and struck out two in 1.1 innings.

The ValleyCats will look to avoid the sweep at 7:05 Eastern.

DSL Astros 3, DSL Royals1 2

W- Jherson Pereira (2-0)
L- Leandro Mendez (0-1)

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros scored a pair of runs in the 9th to take the lead and then they staved off a rally from the Royals 1 to get the win.

Tomás Ramirez put the DSL team on the board with an RBI single in the 3rd. They loaded the bases to lead off the 9th and Omar Díaz put them in the lead by drawing a walk to bring in Yohander Martinez. Ricardo Toro added a sac fly one batter later. Martinez finished 2-3 on the day.

Reimy Beltre went five innings and allowed a run on a solo homer, two other hits, walked one, and struck out four. Jherson Pereira got the last four innings and he allowed a run on four hits and struck out two.

The Astros will take on the Rays 1 at 11:00 AM Atlantic.
