Obtained as a part of the Jose Veras trade (along with OF Danry Vasquez) with Detroit in July 2013, Paulino sat out the 2014 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Since coming off the DL in June, he has rocketed up the Astros system, making two starts in Tri-City and five starts in Quad Cities prior to this promotion. He is 4-2 with a 1.18 ERA and a 0.895 WHIP with nine walks to 42 strikeouts in 38 innings.
