Stassi and Fields were the odd men out as Jason Castro returned from paternity leave and Lance McCullers returns to action tonight after his DL stint. Fields lost his spot (at least temporarily) to Michael Feliz who hasn't allowed a run since returning to the team in May.

In the worst kept secret of the season, Joe Musgrove was promoted to Fresno and is slated to pitch tonight. He will be taking Reymin Guduan with him. To say that Musgrove had nothing left to prove at AA is a vast understatement. He allowed only one earned run and three walks (to 30 strikeouts) in his first 26.1 innings with the Hooks this season. Similarly, Guduan with his vastly improved command, has really shone this season. In nine appearances for the Hooks (13.1 innings), he has allowed only one run and three walks while striking out 19.

Another well-deserved promotion went to Ryan Deemes, who compiled a 0.87 ERA and a 0.726 WHIP in nine appearances for Quad Cities before receiving the nod to head to Lancaster.

On the injury front, A.J. Reed pulled himself out of the game with what he is characterizing as a minor hamstring injury. B.J. Anteola of the Fresno Bee has the story. Riley Ferrell, however, has a more serious prognosis. He underwent what will likely be season-ending surgery on an aneurysm in his pitching shoulder. Jake Kaplan of the Chronicle reported the news yesterday.

In more encouraging injury news, this picture shows that LHP Kent Emanuel, who underwent Tommy John surgery last year, is back in on the bump. Friend of the blog Bryan Green caught this photo of Emanuel last week at extended Spring Training.
