Drafted in the 49th round in 2010 out of high school in his native Puerto Rico, Diaz played for the DSL Astros in 2010. In a limited number of games with the Gulf Coast Astros in 2011 (13 games), he hit .281/.378/.438. He has a 35% caught stealing percentage in his time behind the dish.
