Brian McTaggart tucked away a little bombshell in his minor league notebook today. If the surgery was announced previously, I missed it.
"In other injury news, right-hander Jack Armstrong, whom the Astros selected in the third round out of Vanderbilt in last year's Draft, is still wearing a brace after undergoing Tommy John surgery two weeks ago. Nelson said team doctors are pleased with his progress, but he'll miss all of 2012."
Tucked it away is right. Chronicle at least had slightly more information, when they wrote that Armstrong's arm was tender when he signed. Which all leads one to wonder why they'd draft a sore-armed pitcher in the first place. Tommy John surgery may have a high degree of success, but as they say, What the Heck?
