Minor League Recaps

Wednesday's Results

DSL Royals over DSL Astros 8-0
Three of the eight runs allowed by the Astros staff were unearned if that tells you anything. It was Samil de los Santos first loss. Three fielding errors, one throwing error, no extra base hits ... the DSL woes continue. I'm not sure how, but there are four teams with worse records in the DSL. Their pitching isn't really that bad, but their offense is next to last of all the teams. And that's pretty offensive.

GCL Cardinals over GCL Astros 7-6
Enderson Franco pitched a very strong six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk with six strikeouts. The rest of the way things got a bit messy culminating in the loss and blown save being charged to Juan Mojica. Yonathan Mejia had a great day, going three-for-five with a double, a home run, two RBIs and he scored two runs. Teoscar Hernandez drove in two as well. Darwin Rivera continues his blistering pace, going two-for-five as he is hitting .377 for the season.

Greeneville over Elizabethtown 6-4
Adrian Houser got his first win for Greeneville pitching a nice game with two runs allowed on six hits and four walks (like to see that number go down), but striking out eight. Michael Dimock got his second save despite allowing two runs in relief. The obvious (obvious to a dead person) offensive standout was Brian Blasik as he went two-for-three with a triple and four RBIs. The esteemed Appy Astros can fill in the blanks with his eyewitness report here.

Tri-City over Williamsport 4-2
Joe Bircher gave up two runs in his four innings of work and that was that as Jeremiah Meiners got the win in relief and Blake Ford got his eighth save. Ryan Dineen was two-for-four with a double and a home run and Tyler Heineman was two-for-four with an RBI as well.

Lexington over Kannapolis 3-2
This looked as though it might be another one of those "Oh no, here we go again" games as Lexington led 3-0 going in to the eighth only to have Evan Grills make things uncomfortably close in his three innings of work. Thankfully, Luis Cruz' good start didn't go to waste as he got the win and Dayan Diaz got his 12th save. But all three of the pitchers need to buy Delino DeShields dinner. His three-run home run accounted for all the scoring in the game. It was his second home run in as many games.
