Arizona Fall and Winter League Recaps - 10/19

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Phoenix over Mesa 10-6
Bobby Borchering, as DH for Mesa, was 0-for-5 with two strikeouts. Jon Singleton hit a solo shot that was described by the AFL twitter feed as a "mammoth home run to right" and ended the day going 2-for-4 with one RBI, one walk, one strikeout and scored twice. George Springer, getting the start in RF, was 1-for-4 with a walk and a strikeout. He also scored twice. No Astros pitchers pitched in the game.

VENEZUELAN WINTER LEAGUE

Caracas over La Guaira 11-4
For Caracas, CF Brandon Barnes went 1-for-2 with a walk, a strikeout and a sac fly RBI before being lifted for a pinch hitter in the sixth inning. Barnes also had one stolen base and one caught stealing.

Zulia over Aragua 7-6 in 11 innings
2B Jose Martinez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout for Aragua. He also drove in two runs with an RBI single and a bases loaded walk.

DOMINICAN WINTER LEAGUE

Gigantes over Escogido 4-3
RHP Erick Abreu pitched one and a third innings for the Gigantes, allowing a two-run home run and striking out two.

Licey over Toros 12-5
RHP Aneury Rodriguez got the start for Toros, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk in two innings of work. He also recorded two strikeouts.
