LIGA PARALELA
The Liga Paralela (which is more or less the Venezuelan equivalent of the minor leagues) had their championship final games on Thursday and Friday and the Magallanes team prevailed over Tampa Bay's Venezuelan team. Astros catcher Luis Alvarez was perfect behind the plate catching both of the games for Magallanes, and he was close to perfect at the plate as well. In the two games, he went 6-for-7 with two home runs, five RBI and scored three runs.
RHP Carlos Quevedo did not pitch in the finals, having pitched in the semi-finals, but was credited for helping the Magallanes get to the playoffs with his terrific season. In nine games (five starts), he was 5-1 with a 1.38 ERA and a 0.949 WHIP. He had five walks to 35 strikeouts in 39 innings.
