Spring Training Update

Saturday was one of those days where you just tip your cap to the opposing pitcher and move on. Braves top prospect Julio Teheran showed why he is so highly regarded as he no-hit the Astros through six innings, striking out 10. Rick Ankiel collected the only two Astros hits, including a two-run home run that kept the game from being a shutout.

Starting pitcher Phillip Humber allowed three runs on three hits (all solo homers) in his six innings of work. He didn't walk a batter and struck out four. Josh Fields and Rhiner Cruz each pitched a perfect inning in relief.

Astros minor league pitcher RHP David Martinez will take the mound for the Astros. Here is what I had to say about Martinez in my season recap for Lancaster at the end of the 2012 season:

In particular, RHP David Martinez had a solid season finishing 11th in the league among qualifying pitchers with a 4.38 ERA and eighth in the league with a 1.335 WHIP in 27 games (26 starts). But it was the way that he finished the season that should open some eyes. In his last 10 appearances, he was 7-1 with a 2.87 ERA and a 1.293 WHIP. He went on to a 2-0 record in the post-season with a 3.75 ERA and a 1.250 WHIP.
