Sunday's Games
Memphis over Oklahoma City 10-3
Starter Jordan Lyles allowed two runs on five hits over his five innings of work, preserving a tenuous RedHawks lead, before handing it off to Ross Seaton who got man-handled to the tune of seven runs on six hits and two walks and was charged with the loss. Oklahoma City scored all three of their runs in the third (with runs scoring on a Jake Elmore double, a Brandon Laird single and a Fernando Martinez ground out) and never really mounted much of a challenge after that. Trevor Crowe was 3-for-4; Robbie Grossman was 2-for-3 with two walks; and Brandon Laird was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
Tulsa over Corpus Christi 6-3
Nick Tropeano (L, 0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four before giving way to Bobby Doran who gave up three additional runs in his three innings. The Hooks offense was held to five hits and didn't make a dent in the run column until the seventh inning. Carlos Perez was 2-for-4 and George Springer and Jio Mier were each credited with an RBI.
Lancaster over Modesto 6-1
The 'Hawks scored via a M.P. Cokinos (2-for-4) home run in the top of the fourth and the Nuts answered with a run in the bottom of the frame and that's where things stood, knotted at 1-1 until Lancaster broke things wide open in the top of the eighth, scoring three on a Matt Duffy home run and two more on an Andrew Aplin (2-for-5) triple. Great pitching from Brady Rodgers (5IP, 4H, 1R, 1BB, 5SO) and Chris Devenski (4IP, 2H, 1BB, 7SO), with Chris Devenski recording his second win of the young season. Brandon Meredith was 2-for-5 with a double and Preston Tucker was 2-for-4. Delino DeShields was taken out of the game early, presumably due to a finger injury with which he's been dealing.
Quad Cities over Peoria 3-2
Vincent Velasquez also notched his second win of the season in a solid five-inning outing in which he gave up one run on three hits and two walks with one strikeout. He was followed by Joe Bircher who allowed one unearned run in his three innings of work. John Neely nailed down the save, his first of the season. Rio Ruiz collected his first Midwest League home run, a solo shot in the second. The Bandits added on two more in the first via a Jordan Scott sac fly and a Jesse Wierzbicki RBI single. Carlos Perdomo went 2-for-3, stole a base and scored a run; and Joe Sclafani was 1-for-2 with two walks, two stolen bases and a run scored.
Player of the Day: I'll have to go with Matt Duffy for jacking out his fourth home run of the season and padding his RBI total to a very healthy 14.
Pitcher of the Day: Chris Devenski simply dominated the Nuts on Sunday, allowing only two singles while striking out seven batters.
So, I guess the cheering section for the Modesto Nuts would chant, "Let's go Nuts!"
