SS Nolan Fontana (22)
Drafted by the Astros in the second round in 2012 out of the University of Florida, Fontana is in his first full season in the organization. In 39 games for Lancaster so far this season, he is hitting .315/.449/.493. He was just recently activated from the DL after spending the second half of May out of action.
Former Astros with birthdays today ~
C Larry Howard (68)
Signed as a free agent by the Colt .45's in 1963, Howard finally made it to Houston in 1970. From 1970 to 1973, he was primarily a back up catcher to Johnny Edwards. He played in 129 games for Houston, hitting .238/.305/.342 and had a 37% caught stealing percentage.
1B/LF Dave Bergman (60)
A second round draft pick by the Yankees in 1974, Bergman came to Houston in a June 1977 trade with the Yankees and played in 213 games for the Astros before departing via trade to the Giants in April 1981. Frequently used as a pinch hitter, Bergman had a .246/.354/.319 batting line with the team.
OF Ken Ramos (46)
Ramos was a waiver claim from the White Sox in 1984. His entire major league career consisted of 15 plate appearances over 14 games in 1997. He never got that elusive big league hit, but he did get one RBI so he's got that going for him. Ironically, in 10 minor league seasons, he was an excellent hitter with a .300/.388/.395 line.
