MiLB.com released their list of Organization All-Stars for the Astros on Wednesday. As explained in the link, they are "honoring the players, regardless of age or prospect status, who had the best seasons in their organization." There are names on the list that won't surprise you, including George Springer, Lance McCullers and Carlos Correa, but there are a couple of names that may ... unless, of course, you've been reading my blog regularly. Do yourself a favor and read the entire post. It includes some excellent input from the Astros Coordinator of Pro Scouting Kevin Goldstein on the honored players.
Baseball Prospectus Astros Top 10 Prospects
Jason Parks of Baseball Prospectus released his Top 10 Prospect List for the Astros on Monday. I only have a couple of comments on the post. First of all, I find it really, really, really unlikely that Carlos Correa will make it to Houston in 2014 even as a September call-up. Even if Correa is ready, I don't think GM Jeff Luhnow is going to rush him nor do I think it likely that they will use a 40-man roster spot in advance of next year's Rule 5 ... think George Springer. Secondly, I am happy to see the addition of RHP Vincent Velasquez and RHP Michael Feliz into the conversation alongside righties Mike Foltynewicz, Lance McCullers and Mark Appel, but I find it difficult to believe that Parks doesn't see any of the five as having top of the rotation potential.
Parks posted this follow-up to his Top 10 list on Tuesday, debating whether Correa or Springer is the better prospect.
