The Astros today announced the signing of free agent RHP Jesse Crain to a one-year contract. Crain is only the latest addition to the team as GM Jeff Luhnow has sought to substantially upgrade a bullpen that often struggled mightily in 2013. Crain, a 10-year major league veteran, played the last three seasons for the Chicago White Sox. In 156 appearances over those three seasons, he had a 2.10 ERA and a 1.167 WHIP. In 2013, he had an 0.74 ERA and a 1.145 WHIP in 38 appearances and was named to the All-Star team.
With this latest signing, the Astros 40-man roster now stands at 40.
