Astros Fall and Winter League Playoff Recaps

Results for Monday, January 20

LIGA VENEZUELA BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Caracas 14, La Guaira 13

Wow. Caracas found themselves down 6-2 after 3 innings, erased that deficit with a 6-run 4th, then promptly relinquished the lead by surrendering 6 runs in the 5th. They ended up storming back from a 13-9 deficit entering the bottom of the 9th, and Bobby Abreu, who is still very much alive and kicking, completed the comeback with the game-winning 2-run single. Now, let's rewind to the beginning of the inning. After Alex Gonzalez (not the one in the Astros system) led off with a walk, Jesus Guzman sparked the rally with a 2-run homer. Guzman also added 2 doubles, the first of which put Caracas on the board in the 2nd, down 5-1.

This was a huge victory for Caracas, as they're still tied with Caribes for 2nd in the round-robin. In the final game of round-robin play tonight, Caracas will face Magallanes on the road, while Caribes will host Zulia.
