Astros Minor League Roster Moves

According to these tweets, 1B/DH Mike Martinez is no longer with the organization.

It's not a huge surprise in that he was an older prospect who hadn't progressed past playing for Short Season A Tri-City last year, but also because he tested positive for an amphetamine and was placed on the restricted list in August.

But I will admit that I did enjoy watching him play and watching him interact with his teammates when I was at Tri-City in July. We wish him the best of luck.

I have been told that there will likely be a few more cuts prior to Spring Training. I will keep you posted as I find out the information.

  1. Have you considered changing the name to "Not So Fast, Mike"

  2. Has anyone researched WHERE he got the 'amphetamine' from? No, they just drag his name through the mud. Follow through ON ALL stories before assuming what you read is 'the truth.' As for old guys who trash young, hard-working athletes who sacrifice being with family, friend to achieve a dream....I feel sorry for you...writing a comment after 11 pm to trash a young athlete who has just been 'released' shows me how pathetic you are.

    1. I think you misinterpreted what the commenter was talking about. I think he was talking about the name of my blog. The blog's name (What the Heck, Bobby?) was a take off on the name of the former director of scouting, Bobby Heck. I think Kenneth was referring to the new scouting director Mike Elias and was joking that I should change the name of the blog to "Not so Fast, Mike." I don't think he was talking about Mike Martinez at all.

For what it's worth, I liked Mike Martinez and I wish nothing but the best for him. He was fun to watch and his response to being released was nothing short of very classy.

I have no way of knowing "the truth" about what happened one way or the other. If there was an issue with the news that was reported, you should probably be asking the news source to investigate further rather than asking an unpaid blogger with a full time job to do so. I have limited time and resources, but my goal is to always treat players fairly and to never take cheap shots. I feel as though I treated Mike fairly in this post.

Again, I wish nothing but the best for him.
