And In Other News ...

The story came out over the weekend that Jack Armstrong, the Astros third round pick from 2011, is moving from the mound to first base. Bryan Green, a great photographer that I follow on Flickr, actually broke the story on March 4th when he posted this photo of Armstrong (check out the comment at the bottom left).

Also, Evan Drellich reported in today's Chronicle that the first round of Spring Training cuts have been made with Jake Buchanan, Bobby Doran, Jason Stoffel, Nick Tropeano, Jonathan Meyer, Ronnie Torreyes, Leo Heras and Preston Tucker reassigned to minor league camp and Paul Clemens optioned to Oklahoma City and assigned to minor league camp. That reduces the number of players in major league camp to 56 from the original 65. [UPDATE: According to Brian McTaggart, four additional players were optioned to minor league camp, bring the number in big league camp to 52. They were Luis Cruz, David Martinez, Domingo Santana and Max Stassi.]

And thanks to David Coleman over at TCB for posting the minor league Spring Training game schedule.

  1. When they have a "camp day" scheduled, what does that mean?

    1. It just means that no games are scheduled that day so they'll probably just be doing drills on fundamentals, etc., or playing games within the system instead of against another team.
