Happy Birthday - 4/15

No future Astros with birthdays today, but one former Astro celebrates ~

SS J.C. Hartman (80)
Once a player for the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro Leagues in 1955, Hartman was, at 28 and 29, one of the older players for the Colt 45's in 1962 and 1963. He played in 90 games over those seasons putting up an anemic .185/.211/.210 batting line (compared to his minor league line of .280/.319/.345 over 10 seasons). His time in the Negro Leagues was interrupted by a stint in the Army, where he played on the All-Army champion team in 1957 with singer Charley Pride and a couple of future San Francisco Giants players. After baseball, he became a Houston policeman, eventually becoming the first black police supervisor in the Houston Police Department in 1973. For more on Hartman, read this entry from the Negro Leagues Baseball eMuseum site.
