Astros Minor League Recaps

Nashville 7, Oklahoma City 3

W- Mike Fiers (7-5)
L- Tommy Shirley (0-1, 7-4 season)

OKC home runs: Matt Duffy (9, 15 season; solo in 5th)

The Sounds roughed up Tommy Shirley as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead.

Shirley went 6.1 innings and allowed 7 runs on 10 hits (8 singles, 2 doubles), walked 4, and struck out 1. Jason Stoffel walked 2 and struck out 3 over 2.2 scoreless.

Max Stassi put OKC on the board with an RBI single in the 2nd. Duffy's 15th homer of the season led off the 5th, and Austin Wates drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning. Domingo Santana finished 2-4.

In the series finale, Rudy Owens will face Taylor Jungmann at 6:05.

Frisco 2, Corpus Christi 1

L- Chris Devenski (2-1, 7-6 season)

Chris Devenski lost his no-hitter, and the game, in the 7th, as J.T. Wise and the Roughriders stole the game with a 2-run double.

Devenski allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5 over 6.2 innings. Mitch Lambson struck out 3 over 1.1 perfect innings.

The lone Hooks run came in the 3rd on a double from Tony Kemp. Delino DeShields (40) and Andrew Aplin (16) stole bases.

In the series finale, David Rollins will face Alex Claudio at 6:05.

Lancaster 5, Modesto 2

W- Kent Emanuel (5-3, 5-5 season)
L- Ben Alsup (1-10)
S- Matt Heidenreich (2, 3 season)

Lancaster home runs: Rio Ruiz (9, solo in 3rd), Roberto Peña (7, 2-run in 3rd)

The JetHawks got a solid night on the mound from Emanuel and Heidenreich as they took the first of 4 from the Nuts.

Emanuel allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and fanned 6 over 5 shutout innings. The Nuts spoiled the shutout when David Bergin hit a 2-run homer off of Heidenreich in the 9th. Heidenreich allowed 2 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 6 in 4 innings.

Jack Mayfield opened the scoring with a sac fly in the 2nd. After Tanner Mathis drew a walk, Teoscar Hernandez legged out an RBI infield single. The 2 homers from Rio and Roberto constituted the scoring in the 3rd. Teoscar and Peña both finished 2-4.

In game 2 of this series, Josh Hader will take on Matt Flemer. First pitch is at 7:00.

Quad Cities 6, Lake County 0

W- Michael Feliz (6-2)
L- Mitch Brown (2-8)

QC home runs: Chase McDonald (8, solo in 7th)

The team of Michael Feliz and Tyler Brunnemann grounded the Captains' ship as they combined on a 3-hitter.

Feliz allowed 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8 over 7 shutout innings. Brunnemann struck out 3 over 2 perfect innings to finish it off.

Ronnie Mitchell hit an RBI groundout in the 1st to open the scoring. The Banditos got 3 in the 5th on 3 bases-loaded walks drawn by McDonald, Brian Holberton, and Marc Wik. James Ramsay tripled with 1 out in the 6th and scored on a sac fly from J.D. Davis. McDonald, who had a string of 5 consecutive 2-hit games and a 7-game hitting streak snapped on Friday, led off the 7th with his 8th home run of the year. Ramsay was the only player on either side with a multi-hit game, as he went 2-2 with the triple and scored 3 runs.

In the middle game of this series, Edison Frias will take on Jordan Milbrath. First pitch is at 5:00.

State College 9, Tri-City 2

W- Jeff Rauh (3-0)
L- Randall Fant (0-1, 1-1 season)

TC home runs: None.

The Spikes trampled the ValleyCats to the tune of an 8-0 lead after 4 innings.

Randall Fant bore the brunt of that assault; he went 3.1 innings and allowed 8 runs (5 earned, 1 inherited runner charged to him) on 11 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. Raul Rivera was the first man out, and he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 2.1 innings. Francis Ramirez went 3 innings and allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 2, and fanned 4.

The 2 Tri-City runs came in the 5th on an RBI double from D.J. Fisher and a Nick Tanielu RBI groundout. Bobby Boyd was 1-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a steal (8).

In the middle game of this series, Austin Chrismon will face Fernando Baez at 4:00.

Greeneville 5, Danville 4

W- Brock Dykxhoorn (2-1)
L- Max Povse (0-1)
S- Zach Davis (3)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros put up 4 in the 4th to take a 5-2 lead, and then the Braves made it interesting late. However, Zach Davis was able to keep his cool and as a result, Greeneville returned to .500 with the victory.

Jason Martin went 1-4 with a double and a run scored as he extended his hitting streak to 14 games. He scored the first run of the game in the 1st on a sac fly from Trent Woodward. In the 4th, the Appy Astros got 3 RBI singles from Cesar Carrasco, Luis Reynoso, and Kristian Trompiz, and an RBI double from Ydarqui Marte. Reynoso finished 2-3.

Keegan Yuhl started it off with 3 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 1. Dean Deetz was the first man out; he allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and struck out 1 in the 4th. Krishawn Holley worked around 2 hits and a walk to throw a scoreless 5th. Brock Dykxhoorn went 3 innings and allowed a run on a single, walked 1, and struck out 3. Zach Davis allowed a run on a groundout, 2 hits, and struck out 1 in the 9th.

In the middle game of this series, Agapito Barrios will take on Andry Ubiera at 5:00.

GCL Yankees1 11, GCL Astros 5

W- Simon De La Roda (3-1)
L- J.D. Osborne (1-1)

GCL home runs: Hector Roa 2 (2, solo in 2nd, solo in 8th)

The Kissimmee Stros were buried by an 8-run 6th inning.

Hector Roa was largely responsible for the offense as he went 3-4 with 2 solo shots and 3 runs scored. Brauly Mejia hit an RBI groundout in the 4th. Later in the inning, Arturo Michelena had an RBI single and Jean Estrella scored on a wild pitch. Randy Cesar went 2-3.

Aaron West went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits and struck out 3. J.D. Osborne only got 1 out in that nightmare 6th as he allowed 6 runs (5 earned, 3 inherited runners charged to him) on 3 hits and walked 2. Kyle Gehrs got the final 2 outs of the inning, but not before he allowed 2 runs of his own on 2 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 1. Elieser Hernandez restored some semblance of order as he threw 2 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 2.

The GCL has Sundays off.
