Astros Minor League Playoff Picture Update

[Note: Dustin and I have both been busy with that pesky real life stuff this weekend, but Dustin will get back on track with recaps today.]

With eight days left in the minor league regular season, let's take a brief look at the Astro affiliates playoff picture. I will try to update this daily until all of the playoffs have been decided.

OKLAHOMA CITY

2nd    71-66    .518    1.0GB    W2

Playoff Picture - 7 games left; elimination number is 8

The RedHawks were the beneficiaries of losses by first place Omaha and third place Iowa yesterday, and the 'Hawks win put them within striking distance of first place, only one game behind the leader. Oklahoma City also increased their lead over Iowa to three games. With no games left between OKC and Omaha, they just need to keep winning in order to force the issue.

CORPUS CHRISTI

For the second half:
4th     28-34     .452     8.0GB     W1

Playoff picture - 8 games left; elimination number is 1

The Hooks are on the brink of elimination and nothing short of a miracle will help them at this point.

LANCASTER

For the season:
1st    76-57    .571    -.-GB    W1

For the second half:
T1st     32-31     .508     -.-GB     W1

Playoff Picture - 7 games left; elimination number is N/A

The 'Hawks clinched their playoff berth by winning the first half. All that remains at this point is to see whether or not they can win the second half as well. They are currently tied with Lake Elsinore for first place in the second half standings. Inland Empire trails by one game, Rancho Cucamonga by two games and High Desert by three games. The second half title is still very much up in the air. Lancaster plays four more games against Inland Empire and three against High Desert.

QUAD CITIES - Eliminated

TRI-CITY

1st     43-25     .632     -.-GB     L1

Playoff Picture - 8 games left; elimination number is N/A

The ValleyCats' loss last night and Connecticut's win postponed the division-clinching celebration for another day or so. Connecticut is now seven games behind Tri-City in the Stedler Division standings and the magic number to clinch the division remains at two. With the 'Cats starting a six-game homestand tonight, they should be able to clinch the division in front of the home crowd now.

GREENEVILLE

4th     30-31     .492     5.0GB     L1

Playoff picture - 5 games left; elimination number is 3

Greeneville's tough loss last night dropped them further back in the standings and puts them in danger of elimination if they don't string together some wins immediately. Elizabethton still leads the pack, but now Johnson City and Kingsport are tied for second place with Greeneville trailing them by two games. The first and second place teams will advance to the playoffs. The Appy Astros play two more games outside the division before playing their final three games against Johnson City. The Kingsport Mets play their final five games against division contenders so there are still a lot of moving parts between now and the final regular season Appy League game on Friday.

GCL ASTROS - Eliminated

DSL ASTROS ORANGE - Eliminated

DSL ASTROS BLUE - Eliminated
