Oklahoma City 6, Fresno 0

W- Rudy Owens (7-5)
L- Jason Berken (9-9)

OKC home runs: Carlos Perez (6, 2-run in 8th)

The RedHawks had 3 pitchers combine on a 2-hit shutout and the offense created some separation between them and the Grizzlies with some late runs.

Jonathan Villar led off the game with a double and scored the first run of the night on a Ronald Torreyes groundout. Villar had an RBI groundout of his own in the 5th. In the 7th, Joe Sclafani hit an RBI single, and OKC put the game away with 3 in the 8th, as Andrew Aplin hit a sac fly and Carlos Perez capped off the evening by hammering a 2-run homer, his 6th on the season. Sclafani, Preston Tucker, Matt Duffy, Perez, and Max Stassi all had 2 hits in this game. Duffy extended his hitting streak to 8 games, while Sclafani has a 7-game streak going.

Rudy Owens allowed 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 5 over 7 shutout innings. Jorge De Leon and Kevin Chapman retired the 8th and 9th in order, respectively; Chapman had a strikeout.

L- Mike Hauschild (2-8, 4-9 season)
S- Mark Peterson (2)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks got 2 in the 8th to make it a 1-run game, but their comeback bid fell just short.

In game 2 of this series, Josh Hader will make his first AA start. He'll take on Christian Binford at 7:10.

High Desert 7, Lancaster 5 in 10 innings

W- Grady Wood (4-4)
L- Jamaine Cotton (1-2)
S- Andrew Kittredge (6)

Lancaster home runs: Tyler White (3, 10 season; solo in 5th)

The JetHawks were unable to hold a 1-run lead and the Mavericks had the advantage of having 2 crooked-numbered innings at their disposal, negating Lancaster's 5 1-run innings.

Chan-Jong Moon led off the bottom of the 1st with a single, advanced to 2nd on a Brett Phillips sac bunt, to 3rd on a Rio Ruiz groundout, and scored the first Lancaster run of the night on an errant pickoff throw. Phillips hit an RBI single in the 2nd. Moon, who finished 3-6, added an RBI single of his own in the 4th. Tyler White's 10th homer of the season led off the 5th inning. In the 6th, Moon was caught in a rundown after Phillips grounded out, but he held out long enough for Jack Mayfield, who came home with the go-ahead run at that time. Mayfield went 3-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored at the bottom of the order, and Ronnie Mitchell was 2-5 with a run scored.

Lance McCullers pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits (solo and 2-run homers), walked 2, and struck out 6. He became the 5th pitcher in the Astros system to strike out 100 this season. Kyle Westwood pitched the next 4 innings and allowed a solo homer to Bryan Brito in the 7th. He allowed one other hit and struck out 5. Jamaine Cotton allowed the 2 go-ahead runs on 4 hits in the 10th.

Game 2 of this series features Kent Emanuel, coming off his best start of the season. He'll take on Dylan Unsworth at 8:30.

Kane County 4, Quad Cities 3

W- David Garner (1-0)
L- Frederick Tiburcio (1-3)

QC home runs: None.

Sad Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers is sad that the River Bandits walked off with a loss.

The normally very reliable Frederick Tiburcio got bit in the rear by a couple of errors in a nightmare bottom of the 9th.

They broke a scoreless tie in the 6th as Marc Wik hit a sac fly and J.D. Davis drew a bases-loaded walk. Davis added an RBI single in the 8th.

Kevin Comer and Adrian Houser both threw 4 scoreless innings. Comer allowed 4 hits and fanned 3, while Houser allowed 2 hits and struck out 2. Tiburcio lost the game with 2 outs in the 9th as Danny Lockhart delivered the winner for Kane County, an RBI single. He also allowed a 2-run homer to Jacob Rogers, which suddenly made it a 1-run game. Tiburcio allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. Only 1 of the 4 runs he allowed was earned.

Andrew Thurman will get the start in game 2 of this series. He'll face Paul Blackburn at 6:30.

Tri-City 3, Hudson Valley 2 in 10 innings

W- Derick Velazquez (1-1)
L- Justin McCalvin (1-1)

TC home runs: Jason Martin (1, solo in 1st), Jamie Ritchie (1, solo in 9th)

The ValleyCats walked off with a victory and moved into a tie with their opponents for the best record in the New York-Penn League. Alex Presley went 0-3 with a strikeout as he began his rehab assignment.

Jason Martin opened up the scoring with his first home run as a pro. But, the Renegades got a pair in the 3rd to take the lead. It would be 2-1 until the bottom of the 9th. D.J. Fisher and Terrell Joyce both struck out, and Jamie Ritchie was the ValleyCats' last chance. All he did was tie the game at 2 with his first pro home run.

Mott Hyde walked to begin the 10th, and then he moved to 3rd after an Ariel Ovando double. Juan Santana got a free pass to 1st to load the bases for Alex Hernandez, who promptly won the game with a single to bring Hyde home. Martin also stole his first base in the NYPL, giving him 9 on the year.

Jay Gause went 2.2 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. After that, 3 pitchers combined to throw 7.1 scoreless. Luis Ordosgoitti threw 5.1 of those; he allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Aaron Vaughn allowed a hit and walked 1 over 1.1 innings, and Derick Velazquez got the final 2 outs of the 10th.

In game 2 of this series, Robert Kahana will take on Hunter Wood at 6:00.

Burlington 3, Greeneville 0

W- Yunior Marte (2-3)
L- Devonte German (0-2)
S- Cole Way (1)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros dropped the series as they were held to just 3 hits.

Devonte German allowed 3 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 4 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 2 in 4.2 innings. Agapito Barrios allowed 3 hits and struck out 4 n 3.1 innings, and Zach Davis struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Greeneville will be in Elizabethton for their biggest series of the season. They and Johnson City are both 2.5 games behind the Twins. In the opener, Austin Nicely will face former UT standout John Curtiss at 6:00.

GCL Tigers 3, GCL Astros 2

W- Confesor Lara (1-0)
L- Juan Hernandez (0-1)
S- Tyler Ford (3)

GCL home runs: None.

The Tigers took the lead thanks to a 3-run 6th, which was the difference in this one.

Marlon Avea opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 4th. He scored on a Connor Goedert groundout in the 7th.

Making his season debut, Ambiorix De Leon allowed a hit and struck out 2 in the 1st. Dan Mengden made his pro debut with 2 strikeouts in a 1-2-3 2nd. Francis Martes walked 2 and fanned 4 over 3 scoreless. Juan Hernandez went 2 innings and allowed those 3 6th-inning runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Almonte, De La Cruz, and Matute had 2 hits apiece; they had all 6 hits for the Blue team.
