Oklahoma City 13, Colorado Springs 6

OKC home runs: Domingo Santana (14, 3-run in 1st), Matt Duffy (11, 17 season; 2-run in 3rd), Jonathan Villar (2, 8 season; solo in 7th)

The RedHawks opened up the series with a bang as they clubbed 3 homers and busted open a 6-5 game with 6 in the 6th inning.

Preston Tucker went 3-5 and opened up the scoring in the 1st with an RBI single. One batter later, Domingo landed the first haymaker with his 3-run homer. Matt Duffy delievered another one with his 2-run shot in the 3rd.

The RedHawks led 6-5 heading into the bottom of the 6th, but an error opened up the floodgates. Carlos Perez and Jio Mier both walked to begin the inning. Jonathan Villar then laid down a sac bunt that Sky Sox pitcher R.J. Seidel botched. As a result, everyone was safe, and Joe Sclafani stepped up with a golden opportunity. He didn't let it go to waste, as he came through with a 2-run single. Ronald Torreyes followed that up with an RBI single. Tucker picked up his 2nd RBI single of the night, and then Andrew Aplin capped off the big inning with a 2-run single. Villar drove himself in for the final OKC run of the night.

Sclafani reached base in all 5 of his plate appearances, going 3-3 with 2 walks and 2 runs scored. Duffy (3 R), Torreyes (RBI, R), and Aplin (2-RBI single) had 2 hits apiece.

Nick Tropeano went 5 innings and allowed 5 runs on 5 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 6. Anthony Bass allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2 in a scoreless 6th. Jorge De Leon pitched 2 innings and allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4, and Jason Stoffel struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Corpus Christi 4, Midland 2

W- Mitch Lambson (1-0, 2-1 season)
L- Ryan Dull (4-5)
S- Tyson Perez (8, 9 season)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks broke a 1-1 tie with 3 in the top of the 9th.

Colin Moran got his first AA RBI with a groundout in the 4th. Leo Heras led off the 9th with a single and moved over to 2nd on a sac bunt. After Moran was intentionally walked, Conrad Gregor put the Hooks ahead with an RBI double. One batter later, M.P. Cokinos provided insurance in the form of an RBI single, and an error on the play allowed Gregor to score another big run.

Luis Cruz pitched 6 innings and a solo homer to Dusty Coleman in the 5th was his only blemish. He allowed 2 other hits, walked 3, and struck out 5. Mitch Lambson struck out 2 over 2 perfect innings, and Tyson Perez allowed an unearned run on a force out and a single in the 9th.

Lake Elsinore 5, Lancaster 1

W- Elliot Morris (5-4)
L- Josh Hader (9-2)

Lancaster home runs: Jon Kemmer (7, 11 season; solo in 3rd)

The JetHawks were doomed by a 4-run 5th.

Jon Kemmer's homer in the 3rd was one of just 3 Lancaster hits.

Josh Hader allowed 5 runs on 5 hits (solo homer), walked 4, and struck out 1 in 4.1 innings. Juan Minaya was the first man out; he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 1.2 innings. Pat Christensen allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3 over 1.1 innings, and in his Lancaster debut, Tyler Brunnemann retired all 5 Storm batters he faced.

Kane County 8, Quad Cities 2

W- Jonathan Martinez (8-5)
L- Kevin Comer (1-3)

QC home runs: Marc Wik (3, 5 season; solo in 3rd), Brett Phillips (13, solo in 6th)

The Cougars jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the 1st, and it seemed like the River Bandits were never really in this one.

The 2 runs came from the 2 solo homers you see above. J.D. Davis went 2-4 with a double.

Kevin Comer went 3 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1. In his MWL debut, Keegan Yuhl allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and struck out 1 over 2 innings. Adrian Houser pitched the final 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 1.

Tri-City 8, Batavia 4

W- Troy Scribner (7-1, 9-1 season)
L- Steven Farnworth (1-1)

TC home runs: Alex Hernandez (2, solo in 2nd)

After 2 straight series losses, the ValleyCats got off on the right foot as they doubled up the Muckdogs, jumping out to a 7-1 lead after 2 innings. Batavia got on the board with 1 in the top of the 1st, but the tide quickly turned as TC put up a touchdown in the 1st, tacked on an extra point in the 2nd, and completed the 2-point conversion in the 6th.

Mott Hyde reached on an error to begin the big 1st inning; he would score Tri-City's first run on an RBI single from Jamie Ritchie. A Nick Tanielu walk loaded the bases for Terrell Joyce, who then smacked a 2-run double. Tanielu would end up scoring on the play, thanks to an error. Jose Solano followed that up with an RBI double to bring Joyce home, and Ariel Ovando added an RBI single. Hernandez's 2nd home run of the year led off the 2nd, and in the 6th, Tanielu pounded an RBI double. Solano (2B, RBI, R), Tanielu (2B, RBI, R), Hernandez (HR, 2 R), and Hyde (2B, 2 R) all had 2-hit nights.

Troy Scribner pitched 5 innings and allowed 4 runs on 11 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Kevin Ferguson was the first man out; he worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 6th, striking out 1. Raul Rivera struck out 3 over 2 perfect frames, and Jordan Mills walked 1 and struck out the side in the 9th.

Greeneville 2, Johnson City 1

W- Reymin Guduan (1-3)
L- Kender Villegas (1-2)

Greeneville home runs: None.

The Appy Astros took the rubber game of their series with the Cardinals as they answered JC's run in the top of the 7th with 2 of their own after stretch time. Yep, all the scoring was done in 1 inning.

Kristian Trompiz put Greeneville on the board and in the lead with a 2-run single in the bottom of the 7th. Cesar Carrasco went 2-4.

Robert Kahana allowed 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 5 shutout innings. Reymin Guduan pitched the final 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4.

GCL Phillies 4, GCL Astros 2

W- Tanner Kiest (1-0)
L- Justin Ferrell (1-2)
S- Kyle Bogese (3)

GCL home runs: None.

The difference here was a 3-run top of the 8th for the Phillies.

Joan Mauricio hit an RBI double in the 3rd. Dex McCall got one of those 3 runs back with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 8th. Nestor Tejada weent 1-2 with a run scored in his US debut.

Junior Garcia threw 3 scoreless to start, allowing 3 hits, walking 2, and fanning 5. John Gatlin threw a 1-2-3 4th. J.D. Osborne worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out 1. Travis Ballew allowed an unearned run on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4 in 4 innings. Justin Ferrell pitched the final 2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. He bore the brunt of the Phillies' assault in the 8th.

DSL Royals 2, DSL Astros Blue 1

W- Aronny Cruz (2-0)
L- Gabriel Valdez (3-4)
S- Cesar Melendez (3)

Blue home runs: None.

The Royals mounted a late rally with a pair in the 8th to take the lead.

The lone Blue run came in the 5th, when Rodrigo Ayarza grounded into a force out that scored Carlos Canelon. Wander Franco went 2-4.

Salvador Montaño allowed 3 hits and struck out 8 over 5 shutout innings. Gabriel Valdez went 3 innings and allowed a 2-run homer to Cristhian Vasquez in the 8th which put the Royals up 2-1. He allowed 3 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 2.

DSL Astros Orange 10, DSL Blue Jays 8

W- Antonio Almonte (2-1)
L- Erick Hurtado (3-3)
S- Bryan Abreu (2)

Orange home runs: None.

Both teams scored in the game's first 3 innings, but the Orange team scored in the next 3 innings and came out with the win. They were down 8-4, but scored the game's final 6 runs.

Wilson Amador singled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and, 2 wild pitches later, scored the Orange team's first run of the day. Reiny Beltre scored on another wild pitch in the 2nd. In the 3rd, Orlando Marquez hit an RBI single and Edgar Lorenzo drew a bases-loaded walk. The Orange team got 4 in the 4th on a couple of RBI doubles from Anardo Peralta and Marquez, and a 2-run single from Beltre. Jose Benjamin scored on yet another wild pitch in the 5th; he added a sac fly in the 6th. He, Beltre, Marquez, and Amador all had 2-hit days.

Adonis Peña allowed 8 runs (3 earned) on 7 hits, walked 3, and struck out 3 in 2.2 innings. Antonio Almonte threw 5.1 perfect innings and struck out 8, and Bryan Abreu struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 9th. Yep, they threw 6.1 perfect innings.

Friday: DSL Blue Jays 14, DSL Astros Orange 7

Oklahoma City 8, Colorado Springs 1

OKC home runs: Preston Tucker 2 (5, 22 season; 2-run in 1st, solo in 7th)

The RedHawks jumped out to a 7-0 lead and Brady Rodgers had a fantastic start as they've taken the first 2 from the Sky Sox.

Preston Tucker opened up the scoring with his 1st homer, and wrapped it up with his 2nd. Ronald Torreyes went 4-5 with a run scored, a steal (9), and a couple of RBI singles in the 3rd and 4th. Jonathan Villar and Joe Sclafani chipped in with RBI singles of their own in the 4th. Villar and Sclafani executed a double steal which saw Villar take 3rd and Sclafani 2nd. An error allowed them to advance; Villar scored, while Sclafani took 3rd. Sclafani, who is on an 8-game hitting streak, finished 3-5. Villar stole 2 bases (14, 28 season) and scored twice.

Brady Rodgers fired 6 shutout innings and allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Richard Rodriguez allowed a run on 3 hits in 2 innings, and Kevin Chapman worked around 2 hits to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out the side.

Game 3 has Asher Wojciechowski taking on Chad Bettis at 7:05.

Midland 6, Corpus Christi 3

W- Chris Jensen (10-7)
L- Colton Cain (0-2)
S- Jose Flores (6)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks got doubled up and dropped the series.

Leo Heras drew a bases-loaded walk to put Corpus on the board in the 3rd. Tony Kemp went 2-4 with a triple in the 5th; he ended up scoring on a Delino DeShields sac fly. Carlos Perdomo added an RBI infield single in the 6th. Colin Moran went 2-3 with a run scored.

Colton Cain went 3.2 innings and allowed 3 runs on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 1. R.J. Alaniz allowed a solo homer to Kent Matthes in the 5th. He allowed 1 other hit and struck out 1 in 2.1 innings. David Rollins allowed 2 runs on 3 hits and struck out 2 in the 7th, and Kyle Weiland worked around a walk and a hit to throw a scoreless 8th.

The Hooks have today off as they travel to Springdale, Arkansas. They're beginning a 3-game set with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals tomorrow evening at 7:05.

Lancaster 2, Lake Elsinore 1

W- Dan Minor (9-3)
L- Chris Nunn (3-2)
S- Jamaine Cotton (11)

Lancaster home runs: None.

In the rare low-scoring game at The Hangar, Tanner Mathis' RBI double in the 8th proved to be the difference as he broke a 1-1 tie.

Chan-Jong Moon hit an RBI single in the 6th. Catfish Elkins, who scored both JetHawks runs, finished 2-2.

Vince Velasquez allowed a run on 4 hits, walked 3, and struck out 4 in 3.2 innings. Zach Morton tagged in for 2.1 scoreless, allowing 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 2. Dan Minor pitched 2 perfect innings, and Jamaine Cotton worked around a couple of hits to close it out.

The JetHawks will begin a 3-game set with Modesto tonight at 9:05. The team of Brian Holmes and Evan Grills will take on Ben Alsup.

Kane County 9, Quad Cities 5

W- Daury Torrez (10-5)
L- Andrew Thurman (5-7)

QC home runs: Chase McDonald (12, 2-run in 4th), A.J. Reed (3, 8 season; solo in 6th), Brett Booth (4, solo in 7th)

Well, after a stretch of 9 wins in 10 games, the River Bandits have now lost 5 straight after getting swept out of suburban Chicago. A 4-run 6th pushed Kane County's lead to 9-3 and doomed the Banditos.

McDonald's homer put QC on the board in the 4th, down 4-2. Reed's homer came with 2 outs in the 6th, and Booth's with 1 out in the 7th. Booth also had the RBI that wasn't driven in on a homer when he hit a sac fly in the 9th. Reed and J.D. Davis both went 2-4.

Andrew Thurman allowed 7 runs on 10 hits (solo homer), walked 3, and struck out 2 in 5 innings. Albert Minnis allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and fanned 1 in 2 innings. Frederick Tiburcio allowed 2 hits in a scoreless 8th.

The River Bandits return home to begin a 3-game series against Burlington tonight at 7:00. Chris Lee will take on Garrett Nuss.

Tri-City 7, Batavia 5

W- Vince Wheeland (1-1)
L- Gabriel Castellanos (1-5)
S- Ryan Thompson (6)

TC home runs: Terrell Joyce (6, 3-run in 1st)

The ValleyCats got off to another quick start with a 5-0 lead after 2 innings. Then, they had to stave off a Muckdogs rally.

Nick Tanielu opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. Joyce delivered a haymaker in the form of his 3-run homer. Alex Hernandez hit an RBI groundout in the 2nd. Joyce, who finished 2-4, added an RBI double in the 5th, and Alfredo Gonzalez provided a much-needed insurance run with an RBI single in the 8th. He and Tanielu also finished 2-4.

Francis Ramirez went 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. Vince Wheeland allowed a hit and struck out 2 in a scoreless 5th. Randall Fant pitched the next 2 innings; he allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and fanned 3. Derick Velazquez allowed a hit in a scoreless 8th, and Ryan Thompson closed it out with a 1-2-3 9th.

Uh.... well, believe it or not, the series finale is currently in progress. The ValleyCats are looking for the sweep, and they're tied at 2 in the 8th.

Bristol 4, Greeneville 2

W- John Sever (1-1)
L- Dean Deetz (2-2)
S- Luis Paula (1)

Greeneville home runs: None.

All the pitchers that received decisions have 4 letters in their first names and 5 in their last names.

The Appy Astros outhit Bristol 9-4, but they lost in the column that counts.

Their 2 runs came in the 3rd as Kristian Trompiz stole home as part of a double steal and Tony Nuñez hit a sac fly. Trompiz and Edwin Medina both stole their first 2 bases in the Appalachian League in this one. Trompiz now has 7 steals on the year, while Medina now has 20 in 30 total games. He and Jason Martin had 2 hits apiece.

Dean Deetz allowed 3 runs (2 earned), a double, walked 2, and struck out 3 in 2 innings. Jorge Perez allowed hit, walked 2, and struck out 2 in 2 innings. Brock Dykxhoorn went 4 innings and allowed a solo homer to Chris Harvey in the 8th. He allowed 1 other hit, walked 2, and struck out 3. Eric Peterson struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.
