Iowa 8, Oklahoma City 5

W- Dallas Beeler (8-5)
L- Nick Tropeano (7-5)
S- Blake Parker (22)

OKC home runs: None.

The difference in this one was a stretch in the 5th and 6th innings in which the Cubs scored 4 and the RedHawks scored none.

In his first rehab game, Dexter Fowler went 2-3 with an RBI single in the 3rd. He was the DH in this game. The RedHawks got on the board in the 2nd as Matt Duffy scored on a passed ball and Jio Mier hit an RBI single. Preston Tucker smacked an RBI double in the 8th and scored on an Andrew Aplin groundout later in the inning. Aplin also had 2 hits, as did Fowler's replacement at DH, Carlos Perez.

Nick Tropeano went 4.2 innings and allowed 7 runs (2 inherited runners charged to him) on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 4, and struck out 6. Anthony Bass was the first man out; he went 1.1 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and fanned 2. Tommy Shirley worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 7th. Richard Rodriguez struck out 2 in a 1-2-3 8th, and Kevin Chapman allowed 2 hits and struck out 1 in a scoreless 9th.

Game 3 of this series has Luis Cruz making his AAA debut. He'll face Dae-Eun Rhee at 7:05.

Arkansas 3, Corpus Christi 2

W- Michael Roth (10-6)
L- Jordan Jankowski (3-6)
S- Trevor Gott (1)

CC home runs: Brandon Meredith (4, 11 season; 2-run in 1st)

After Meredith opened the scoring with his homer in the 1st, the Hooks only had 3 men reach base the rest of the way.

The home run you see above constituted the entire Hooks offense. In fact, Brandon Meredith and Teoscar Hernandez (2 apiece) had all 4 Corpus hits. Meredith also stole his first base of the season. Delino DeShields went 0-2 with 2 walks and 2 stolen bases, giving him 46 on the year.

Jordan Jankowski had a bare minimum quality start as he allowed 5 hits (solo homer) and struck out 7. R.J. Alaniz struck out 1 over 2 perfect innings.

In the middle game of this series, Brady Rodgers will take on Tyler DeLoach at 5:30.

San Jose 2, Lancaster 1

W- Stephen Johnson (7-4)
L- Vince Velasquez (5-2)

Lancaster home runs: None.

Vince and the JetHawks walked off with a tough, tough loss. The Giants got their 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th, and in this one, a pair of errors in that 9th inning doomed Lancaster.

The lone Lancaster run came in the 2nd on a double from Tanner Mathis. Tyler White finished 2-4.

Zach Morton threw 5 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits while striking out 3. Vince Velasquez strolled through the first 3 innings after tagging in, but he was unable to finish off San Jose. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, issued an intentional walk, and struck out 7 in 3.1 innings of work.

In game 3 of this series, Evan Grills will take on Joe Biagini. First pitch is at 7:00.

Beloit 5, Quad Cities 2

W- Matt Stalcup (4-3)
L- Troy Scribner (0-1, 9-2 season)
S- Brendan McCurry (2)

QC home runs: Chase McDonald (13, solo in 1st)

This loss dropped the River Bandits to 2-6 in August, which does not bode well for their playoff chances.

Chase McDonald was the offense in this one; he finished 2-4 and put the Banditos on the board in the 1st with his 13th home run of the season and added an RBI single in the 3rd. J.D. Davis also went 2-4 with his 1st stolen base in the MWL (2 season).

In his Quad Cities debut, Troy Scribner went 5 and allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 8. Andrew Thurman tagged in for 3 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits, walking 1, and striking out 4. Albert Minnis struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 9th.

Blaine Sims will get the start in game 3. He'll go up against Junior Mendez at 6:00.

Auburn 4, Tri-City 3 in 10 innings

W- Mario Sanchez (5-0)
L- Jordan Mills (1-2)

TC home runs: Terrell Joyce (8, solo in 1st)

The ValleyCats walked off with a series loss.

Jamie Ritchie opened up the scoring with an RBI groundout in the 1st. Joyce followed that up with his 8th homer of the year. Ritchie, who finished 2-4, added an RBI single in the 8th. Bobby Boyd was 1-3 with 2 runs scored and a steal (13), but he was caught to end the top of the 10th, and eventually got tossed. I assume he was less than satisfied with that call.

Robert Kahana went 5 innings and allowed 3 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits and struck out 3. Raul Rivera was the first man out; he allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 in 1.2 scoreless. Aaron Vaughn struck out the only man he faced to end the 7th. Jordan Mills went 2+ innings and allowed the game-winning run on a single in the 10th. He allowed 3 other hits and struck out 1.

The ValleyCats will now begin a 6-game series with the Hudson Valley Renegades. The first leg of this series will be on the road. Starters are TBA.

Greeneville and Pulaski was postponed

A doubleheader is scheduled for tonight. The first game will begin at 5:00, and Reymin Guduan will get the start. Brock Dykxhoorn will start game 2.

GCL Astros 3, GCL Braves 2 in 10 inninngs

W- John Gatlin (1-1)
L- Jordan Sechler (1-1)

GCL home runs: None.

Brauly Mejia won it for the Kissimmee Stros with his 10th-inning RBI single. He finished 2-5 and hit a triple to lead off the 7th.

Dex McCall put the GCLstros on the board first with an RBI double in the 1st. Frankeny Fernandez went 3-5 with an RBI single in the 8th. He also stole his 2nd base in the GCL, giving him 32 on the season.

Justin Ferrell allowed 4 hits and struck out 5 over 4 scoreless. Junior Garcia tagged in for 4, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, walking 1, and striking out 5. John Gatlin struck out 4 over 2 innings. He would've had a perfect outing had he not plunked a Brave.

Both of these teams are currently in a game at the Wide World of Sports complex at Disney World.

DSL Dodgers 2, DSL Astros Blue 0

W- Osiris Ramirez (4-3)
L- Moreno Polanco (1-2)
S- Edward Perez (4)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team had 7 hits, but no runs to show for it. Jake Bowey went 2-4 with a double, and Rodrigo Ayarza finished 2-3.

Moreno Polanco went 4 innings and allowed an unearned run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. Jose Rosario tagged in for 4 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 1. Dariel Aquino worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 1.

Both teams are currently playing at the Dodgers complex.

DSL Astros Orange 9, DSL Yankees2 5

W- Antonio Almonte (3-1)
L- Juan Escorcia (2-2)
S- Adonis Peña (1)

Orange home runs: None.

The Orange team took control of this one thanks to a 6-3 spurt to close the game. Everyone in the lineup had a hit, led by Edgar Lorenzo, who went 4-5. Juan Fuentes and Jose Benjamin had 3 apiece, and Angel De Leon was 2-6 with 2 runs scored.

Ihan Bernal opened up the scoring with an RBI single in the 1st. One batter later, Edgar Lorenzo added an RBI single of his own, but he was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double. Hayden Timberlake drew a bases-loaded walk in the 3rd.

The Orange team got 4 in the 7th as De Leon scored on an error after a Timberlake single, Fuentes hit an RBI single, Benjamin scored on a double play, and Felix Lucas ripped an RBI double. In the 8th, Timberlake and Fuentes hit RBI groundouts.

Antonio Almonte went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 7. Adonis Peña finished it off, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3.

Apparently there's a doubleheader. These two teams have a suspended game from July 17 to complete to go along with the regularly scheduled game.
