No future Astros with birthdays today, but one former Astro celebrates the day ~
IF Mark Loretta (43)
A seventh round pick by the Brewers in 1993, Loretta came to Houston the first time in an August 2002 trade with the Brewers. He played in only 21 games for the Astros in 2002. He came back to Houston in January 2007 as a free agent and spent the next two seasons in the organization. In all, he played in 255 games for the Astros, hitting .296/.363/.393. During the 2007 and 2008 seasons, he was often used as a pinch hitter and batted .333 in those situations. Loretta was an All-Star for San Diego in 2004 and for Boston in 2006. He also earned a Silver Slugger in 2004. In 2013, he was a coach under Brad Ausmus for the Israeli team in the World Baseball Classic qualifying rounds. He is currently a Special Assistant to Baseball Operations in the Padres organization.
