Astros Fall and Winter League Recaps

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Peoria 6, Salt River 3

W- Ryne Harper (2-0)
L- Edgar Olmos (0-1)
S- Sam Tuivailala (2)

Salt River HRs by Astros players: None.

Mark Appel got the start for the Rafters and allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 over 5 innings of work. Those were the first 3 runs that he's allowed in AFL play. The Javelinas broke a 3-3 tie with a pair off of Edgar Olmos (Marlins) in the top of the 6th to take control of the game. Mitch Lambson struck out 1 in a 1-2-3 7th.

Batting 2nd and playing LF, Joe Sclafani went 1-4 with an RBI single in the 5th, and Rio Ruiz finished 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

It's Sunday, so the AFL is off. The Rafters will be back in action on Monday afternoon when they host the Mesa Solar Sox.

LIGA VENEZOLANA DE BÉISBOL PROFESIONAL

Zulia 5, Caracas 1

W- Sergio Perez (1-0)
L- Yoanner Negrin (0-3)

Caracas HRs by Astros players: None.

Danry Vásquez was 1-3 and scored the lone Caracas run in the 7th when he came home on a sac fly from Tommy Pham. Gregorio Petit was 0-2 with a strikeout before he was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the 7th.

These two teams will play again at 7:00 Venezuelan time.

LIDOM

Águilas 8, Estrellas 3

W- Angel Castro (1-0)
L- Richard Bleier (1-1)

Águilas HRs by Astros players: None.

Águilas seized all the momentum in this game when they put up a 5-spot in the 4th inning. Jonathan Villar went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts, but he drove in Águilas' final run of the evening with a sac fly in the 6th.

Águilas will host Licey at 5:00 Atlantic.

Toros 4, Licey 3

W- Elih Villanueva (2-0)
L- John Lannan (0-1)
S- Jose Valverde (1)

Toros HRs by Astros players: None.
Licey HRs by Astros players: None.

Ruben Sosa and Domingo Santana were pinch-runners for Licey; Santana scored in the 8th, while Sosa was thrown out at home trying to score the tying run in the top of the 9th. Sosa also stole his 2nd base of the LIDOM campaign.

For Toros, Teoscar Hernandez entered the game as a defensive replacement in LF in the 8th and did not appear at the plate.

Toros will take on Escogido at 5:00 Atlantic.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Jalisco 3, Mexicali 1

W- Ivan Salas (1-0)
L- Edgar Gomez (1-1)
S- Brian Broderick (5)

Jalisco HRs by Astros players: Japhet Amador (1, solo in 4th)

Amador tied the game at 1 with his blast in the 4th, and the Horsemen put up 2 in the bottom of the 8th to break the tie. Leo Heras was 1-3 with the go-ahead RBI ground-rule double in the 8th, and then Amador, who finished 3-4, brought him home with an RBI single for insurance.

Mexicali and Jalisco will wrap up their weekend series at noon.
