Originally drafted by the Cubs in the fifth round in 2003, Downs was claimed by the Astros off waivers from Detroit in November 2013. In 45 bullpen appearances for Houston in 2014, Downs was 2-1 with a 5.45 ERA and a 1.536 WHIP.
