STANDINGS/PLAYOFF PICTURE

Let's check in with the teams as they make their final pushes for playoff berths.

AAA Fresno 3rd 68-63 .519 7.0GB W1

Fresno continues with their late season swoon. With 12 games left in the season, Fresno's elimination number is down to 6. The fat lady hasn't started the aria yet, but she's doing her vocal warmups.

AA Corpus Christi 1st 77-51 .602 0.0GB W3 (Overall)
2nd half: 3rd 30-28 .517 7.0GB W3
(Clinched playoff berth by winning first half)

The Hooks, however, are starting to heat up just in time for a postseason preview. Corpus Christi is automatically slated for the playoffs by virtue of winning the first half. Their likely opponent is Midland (A's) who holds a 6-game second half lead over the second place San Antonio (Padres) team. The Hooks are in the middle of a 4-game series with Midland and have won the first two. There are 12 games remaining in the regular season. The playoffs are slated to start in Corpus Christi on Wednesday, September 7th.

A+ Lancaster 3rd 72-57 .558 4.0GB W1 (Overall)
2nd half: 1st 37-22 .627 0.0GB W1

The JetHawks remain in first place, four games in front of High Desert (Rangers), five games in front of Rancho Cucamonga (Dodgers) and six games in front of Lake Elsinore (Padres) in the second half. Rancho Cucamonga has been on a roll, going 8-2 in their last 10 and now leads Lancaster by two games in the wild card race. There are 11 games left in the regular season, one against High Desert, three against Rancho Cucamonga and the remainder against sub-.500 teams.

A- Quad Cities 6th 58-70 .453 23.5GB L5 (Overall)
2nd half: 6th 27-32 .458 16.0GB L5

With 11 games remaining in the season and their elimination number now standing at four, the Banditos postseason hopes have been quashed. The fat lady has finished her warmups and is waiting in the wings for her cue to enter the stage.

SSA Tri-City 3rd 33-31 .516 5.0GB W1

The ValleyCats need to lock that fat lady in her dressing room or put her on SlimFast pronto. They are quickly falling out of contention by going 4-6 in their last 10. They have also dropped further behind in the wild card race. Time is not the ValleyCats friend. They will need to get on a roll in their final 12 games. A good place to start would be beating the first place Lowell (Red Sox) team who they will host for a three-game series starting Friday.

Rk+ Greeneville 3rd 28-32 .467 7.0GB L5

The fat lady's intro music is playing for the Appy Astros as well. With eight games left in the season, their elimination number is down to four. They will, however, play the second place Elizabethton (Twins) for the final six of those games. They will need to pull a rabbit out of a hat or, to avoid mixing my metaphors, perhaps put a gag on the fat lady to advance at this point. But stranger things have happened in the game of baseball.

Rk- GCL 5th 20-28 .417 9.5GB W1
ELIMINATED

There are 8 games remaining in their season.

FRk DSL Blue 3rd 41-23 .641 6.5GB W1
ELIMINATED

The fat lady started her aria this week as the Astros Blue team faded down the stretch.

FRk DSL Orange 4th 30-37 .448 16.0GB W1
ELIMINATED

The Orange team has officially been eliminated from postseason play.
