Rain, rain go away....
Tacoma 8, Fresno 0
W- Tyler Cloyd (1-0)
L- David Paulino (0-1)
Fresno home runs: None.
The Grizzlies stumbled out of the gate and found themselves down 4-0 after the 1st. Once again, series openers continue to be unkind to the Grizzlies; they've won just two such games so far this season. They were also blanked for the second game in a row.
David Paulino threw 5 innings and allowed 5 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits (2-run homer), walked 3, and struck out 3. Brian Holmes was the first man out of the Fresno bullpen and went 2 innings, allowing 3 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits (solo homer) and fanning 1. Tyson Perez worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out 1.
Tyler White and D.J. Fisher went 2-4. Reid Brignac and Max Stassi had the other two hits, which were both doubles.
Trent Thornton will take on Dillon Overton at 11:35 AM Pacific.
Corpus Christi and Springfield was postponed
Due to rain. Well actually, Corpus was trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the 4th. Since this game didn't go 5 innings, it doesn't count. So instead, the Hooks and Cardinals will play a doubleheader with game 1 starting at 5:00. Alex Winkelman will kick off tomorrow evening's festivities against Ian McKinney and Yohan Ramirez takes on Austin Gomber in the nightcap.
Buies Creek and Salem was postponed
Due to... you guessed it, rain. A doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4:00 Eastern.
Quad Cities 11, Peoria 1
W- Erasmo Pinales (1-1)
L- Steven Farinaro (1-4)
QC home runs: Yordan Alvarez (2, 2-run in 1st), Osvaldo Duarte (2, solo in 2nd)
The Banditos put up crooked numbers in every inning they scored and romped to a win. With this victory, they've successfully made it back over the .500 mark. This game also went into a rain delay, but it did not suffer the same fate as Buies Creek's and Corpus Christi's contests.
Everyone in the lineup recorded at least one hit in this one. Yordan Alvarez kicked things off with a 2-run homer in the opening frame. Osvaldo Duarte launched a solo homer in the 2nd inning and Daz Cameron followed with a triple. Wander Franco singled and Stephen Wrenn drove Daz in with a single. Carmen Benedetti walked to load the bases for Rodrigo Ayarza, who came through with a 2-run single. Ayarza added a 2-run double to his ledger in the 6th, and finally, Franco smacked a 2-run triple and trotted home on Wrenn's RBI single in the 7th.
Wrenn (2 RBI singles, R), Benedetti (2 R, 3 BB), Duarte (solo HR, 2 R), and Franco (3B, 2 RBI, 3 R) all finished with two hits on the evening. Benedetti has drawn a walk in seven consecutive games. Daz also scored twice.
Gabriel Valdez went 4.2 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Erasmo Pinales allowed a hit and recorded a strikeout in 3 scoreless frames, and Salvador Montaño walked 1 and struck out 3 in 1.1 innings.
Carlos Sanabria gets the start in game 3 of this series. He'll face John Klichowski at 6:35.
