Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Tuesday, June 6, 2017

Fresno 5, Sacramento 2

W- Mike Hauschild (2-1)
L- Dan Slania (0-7)

Fresno home runs: Preston Tucker (11, 3-run in 5th), Colin Moran (9, solo in 6th), A.J. Reed (8, solo in 9th)

The Grizzlies launched 3 homers on Tuesday and got a fine start from Mike Hauschild to power past the RiverCats.

Hauschild allowed 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 6 over 6 shutout innings. Tyson Perez threw a 1-2-3 7th. Sacramento spoiled the shutout when they got a couple of runs off of Brendan McCurry in the 8th. McCurry went 2 innings and allowed 3 hits and struck out 2.

Preston Tucker broke a 0-0 tie in the 5th by bashing a 3-run homer. Colin Moran smacked a solo shot in the 6th, and A.J. Reed capped off the evening with a solo blast in the 9th. Tucker finished 2-4 on the evening; Tony Kemp. Tyler White (2 2B), and Reid Brignac (R) also had two-hit nights.

These two California PCL rivals will continue their series at 7:05 Pacific as Francis Martes takes on Tyler Beede.

Corpus Christi 5, Frisco 1

W- Kent Emanuel (2-3)
L- Ariel Jurado (6-4)

CC home runs: None.

Kent Emanuel shook off an early run-scoring error to shut down the RoughRiders. The Hooks climbed back above the .500 mark with this win.

That run was unearned. Emanuel went 6 innings and allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Riley Ferrell allowed 3 hits over 2 scoreless innings, and Andrew Thome worked around a couple of walks to finish the game.

Ramon Laureano put Corpus on the board and in the lead with a 2-run double. He advanced to 3rd on the relay throw home and scored on Jason Martin's double. Martin tagged up and wound up scoring on an error that allowed Drew Ferguson to reach. Garrett Stubbs drove in the final run of the evening with a sac fly in the 5th. Jack Mayfield was the only player on either side to finish with a multi-hit game, going 3-4 with a double and a run scored.

Josh James takes on Pedro Payano in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Myrtle Beach 2, Buies Creek 0

L- Ryan Hartman (0-2, 3-3 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Carolina Stros were held off the scoreboard for a second straight game and suffered a sweep at home.

Myles Straw doubled and stole a base (13). Jake Rogers also hit a double, and Randy César had a single.

Ryan Hartman pitched well, but he had to take the L. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7 in 6 innings of work. Andrew Walter allowed 3 hits over 2 scoreless innings, and Nick Hernandez worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th.

Buies Creek is back on the road. They'll start a 4-game series in Wilmington on Thursday.

Quad Cities 6, Wisconsin 5

W- Ronel Blanco (2-0, 2-1 season)
L- Andrew Vernon (0-1)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos lived up to their name by scoring 3 in the top of the 9th to snatch the win.

Yordan Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 11 games following an RBI single in the 1st inning. Taylor Jones had a 2-run single in the 4th, which would be Quad Cities' only scoring play until the 9th.

Daz Cameron led off the 9th with a single and advanced to 2nd on a passed ball. Osvaldo Duarte moved him over to 3rd with a single, and Alvarez added another RBI single to his ledger to cut the Timber Rattlers' lead to one run. Chuckie Robinson hit a sac fly to tie the game, and Carmen Benedetti put Quad Cities in front with an RBI single. Alvarez, Robinson, and Benedetti all finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Yohan Ramirez pitched 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (3 earned) on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Lucas Williams was the first man out of the Banditos bullpen and got the 5th, allowing an unearned run on 2 hits, walking 1, and striking out 1. Ronel Blanco finished it off with 4 scoreless, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6.

Carson LaRue takes on Thomas Jankins in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

DSL Dodgers1 4, DSL Astros Blue 3

W- Ronald Parra (1-0)
L- Yulian Frontado (0-1)
S- Adolfo Ramirez (1)

Blue home runs: Ronny Rafael (2, 2-run in 6th)

The Dodgers scored 2 in the bottom of the 8th to nip the Blue team.

Jose Antonio Hernandez allowed a hit, walked 3, and struck out 3 over 4 scoreless innings. Christopher Javier worked around a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 5th. The Dodgers got to Yulian Frontado for all 4 of their runs in 2.2 innings. Frontado allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. Jean Reyes got the last out of the 8th.

César Cortez walked to lead off the 5th, advanced to 2nd on a groundout, took 3rd on a wild pitch, and scored the first run of the day on an errant pickoff throw. Ronny Rafael launched a 2-run homer in the 6th. Angel Tejeda went 2-3.

The Blue team will take on the Dodgers one more time at 10:30 AM Eastern.

DSL Astros Orange 9, DSL Indians 3

W- Fredy Medina (1-0)
L- Christophers Santana (0-1)

Orange home runs: None.

Team Orange broke a 1-1 tie in emphatic fashion with 8 runs on 8 singles in the 6th.

Sean Mendoza tripled to lead off the bottom of the 1st and scored the first run of the morning on a sac fly from Deury Carrasco. This would be the Orange team's only scoring play until they went nuts in the 6th.

Carrasco, Samir Caraballo, and Euclides Chavez started it off with singles; Carrasco scored the go-ahead run on Chavez's base hit. Michael Garcia got plunked to load the bases. Ramiro Rodriguez, Kelvin Perez, Leonardo Gonzalez, and Luis Barajas all followed with RBI singles. Chavez hit a 2-run single in his second plate appearance of the inning. He and Mendoza both finished 2-5 on the day.

The one run that Jairo Solis allowed in his 5 innings came on a solo homer hit by Nehemias Celesten in the 5th. Solis allowed two other hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. Fredy Medina allowed a hit in a scoreless 6th, and Wender Oberto allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6 over the final 3 innings.

These two teams will play again at 10:30 AM Eastern.
