Astros Farm Report: 7-24

It's my final day in Quad Cities and, since I got carried away with the interviews, I will have a LOT of material coming your way starting later this week on this very talented team. In the meantime ...

STANDINGS

Collectively, all of the Astros MiLB affiliates went 31-22 over the last week. Corpus Christi was treading water with a 3-4 week and are in precisely the same place as they were a week ago, second place and three games behind San Antonio (Padres) in the second half standings. Similarly, a 3-3 week for Quad Cities leaves them in the same position as they were in last Monday, but thankfully that position is first place, three games in front of Peoria (Cardinals). Buies Creek's 5-2 week was enough to pad their first place lead over Winston-Salem (White Sox) to six and a half games. But the big story has been the Fresno Grizzlies who have gone from the brink of irrelevance to a tie with Reno (D'Backs) for first place, going 6-1 for the week and a gaudy 24-4 over their last 28 games. Overall, the full season teams are in a good place right now and are well-positioned for possible postseason play.

The short season teams have been a mixed bag this week. The Appy League Greeneville team, with a 1-5 week, has dropped to second place behind the Elizabethton Twins with whom they have been jockeying for position all season. The GCL 'Stros have had the best week, climbing from third place and three games behind to second place and a half game behind the Nationals; they were 4-0 with a suspended game for the week. Tri-City's 4-3 week has helped them climb out of the cellar and gain a couple of games on the division leader. The DSL Orange team (3-1 for the week) remains mired in last place in their division, but they are on a two-game win streak while the DSL Blue (2-3 for the week) team is still in third place, but it is now a three-way tie for third and they are on a current three-game losing streak.
