Round Rock 7, Fresno 5

W- Adam Loewen (5-0)
L- David Martinez (6-8)
S- Preston Claiborne (14)

Fresno home runs: J.D. Davis (1, 22 season; solo in 4th)

The Grizzlies had an uphill battle after surrendering 4 in the top of the 1st to the Express.

A.J. Reed got two of those runs back with a single in the bottom of the 1st. J.D. Davis smacked his first AAA homer to start the bottom of the 4th. Jon Kemmer drew a bases-loaded walk in the 7th and Alejandro Garcia scored on a wild pitch in the 8th. Tony Kemp finished 3-4 with a stolen base (16) and scored twice.

David Martinez pitched 5.2 innings and allowed 6 runs (4 earned) on 6 hits (2-run homer), walked 2, and struck out 7. Jacob Dorris allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1 in 1.1 innings, and Jordan Jankowski allowed a run on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 2 innings.

It's Tuesday, so you know what that means. Taco Tuesday! Trent Thornton will start the first of a 4-game series against New Orleans at 7:05 Pacific. He'll be opposed by Keyvius Sampson.

San Antonio 10, Corpus Christi 1

W- Enyel De Los Santos (8-4)
L- Akeem Bostick (4-3, 6-4 season)

CC home runs: None.

At least the Hooks didn't get shut out here. However, they got battered by Franmil Reyes, who sent a couple of balls out for two-run homers.

Dex McCall went 2-4 and spoiled the shutout with an RBI single in the 9th. Ryne Birk and Drew Ferguson also finished 2-4.

Akeem Bostick allowed 6 runs on 7 hits (2-run homer by Reyes), walked 2, and struck out 3 in 4.1 innings. Alex Winkelman tagged in for 4 innings and allowed 4 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 6 hits (solo and 2-run homers), walked 2, and struck out 4. Ralph Garza Jr. allowed a hit and got the last two outs of the 9th.

Yoanys Quiala will start game 2 and he'll go up against Brett Kennedy at 7:05.

Buies Creek 6, Winston-Salem 1

W- Hector Perez (5-4, 6-5 season)
L- Kyle Kubat (1-3)

BC home runs: None.

Ryan Hartman dueled Bernardo Flores to a draw, but the Carolina Stros erupted for 5 in the bottom of the 8th on the Winston-Salem bullpen to break a 1-1 tie.

Hartman allowed a run on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 5 innings. Hector Perez shut it down by allowing a hit, walking 2, and striking out 5 over the final 4 innings.

Anthony Hermelyn doubled to lead off the 3rd and scored the first run of the evening on an Alex De Goti RBI single. Jake Rogers led off the huge 8th by drawing a walk.

He then advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch. Taylor Jones walked, and Randy César singled to load the bases for Hermelyn, who drew a walk that brought Rogers home and put Buies Creek in front. De Goti kept things moving with a bases-loaded walk of his own, and then César scored on an Anibal Sierra groundout. Myles Straw provided the cherry by ripping a 2-run double. César finished 3-4 on the night, while De Goti finished 2-3.

Jorge Alcala goes up against Alec Hansen in game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Great Lakes 2, Quad Cities 1

W- Leo Crawford (6-8)
L- Ronel Blanco (4-3, 4-4 season)
S- Andre Scrubb (1)

QC home runs: None.

Both teams had 4 hits in this game, but the Loons had one more in the column that matters most.

They both scored a run in the 1st; Quad Cities' lone run came on a Josh Rojas RBI single that scored Kristian Trompiz. Troy Sieber's double was the Banditos' only extra-base hit on the day.

Ronel Blanco pitched well but got saddled with the L. He allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out a career-high 9 in 6 innings of work. Lucas Williams threw 3 scoreless to finish the game, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 3.

The Banditos have Tuesday off; they'll start a 3-game series in Clinton on Wednesday.

Tri-City 9, Vermont 1

W- Brandon Bielak (1-0, 2-0 season)
L- Argenis Blanco (1-4)

TC home runs: Adrian Tovalin 2 (2, 6 season; solo in 2nd, grand slam in 4th)

Some debutants made an impact for the ValleyCats as they thrashed the Lake Monsters on Monday.

Corbin Martin, former Aggie and Cy Ranch standout, allowed some hits (and a run) for the first time as a professional but still turned in a strong outing, allowing an unearned run on 3 hits and striking out 5 in 4 innings. Ben Smith allowed a hit and struck out 2 in a scoreless 5th. Brandon Bielak tagged in to throw 3 scoreless, allowing 2 hits and fanning 6. Reggie Johnson finished it with a 1-2-3 9th, getting a couple of flyouts and a groundout.

Adrian Tovalin opened the scoring with a solo shot in the 2nd inning. He opened up the floodgates in the 4th with a grand slam. Tovalin singled to lead off the 6th and wound up scoring on a wild pitch. He singled again to start the 8th and came around to score on a Jake Meyers single. In the 9th, Connor MacDonald ripped an RBI single and Tovalin capped off his outstanding night in a bit of pain as he got plunked. He did drive in a run, so the silver lining was there.

Tovalin finished 4-4 with 6 RBI in his first game with the ValleyCats. Abraham Toro (2B, 2 R), Connor MacDonald (RBI, R), and Kyle Davis (2B) all finished with 2 hits on the evening.

Carlos Hiraldo will take on Brian Howard, an Astros draft pick from last year who did not sign, in an early start. First pitch for the finale is at 11:05 AM Eastern.

Princeton 10, Greeneville 4

W- Kyle Goodbrand (2-0)
L- Cole Watts (1-3)

Greeneville home runs: Colton Shaver (5, solo in 3rd)

Well, that... got... ugly. Princeton seized control with 8 runs in the 7th inning.

It started out alright for the Appy Astros as they scored 3 in the opening frame, all with two outs: Patrick Mathis ripped an RBI double, Roman Garcia scored on a wild pitch, and Brody Westmoreland hit an RBI single. Colton Shaver smacked a homer to start off the bottom of the 3rd. Mathis finished 2-4 on the night.

Hansel Paulino allowed a hit, walked 4, and struck out 5 in 3 innings. The bullpen, however, had an arduous night as they were responsible for all 10 Princeton runs. Willy Collado allowed 2 runs on 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 1 in 2 innings. Cole Watts allowed 7 runs (1 inherited runner charged to him) on 5 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4 in 1.2 innings, and Dariel Aquino went 2.1 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3.

Felipe Tejada starts game 2 of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Astros 3, GCL Mets 1

W- Austin Kerns (1-0)
L- Briam Campusano (1-2)
S- Devin Raftery (1)

GCL home runs: None.

The Palm Beach Stros put up the only crooked number in this game and that was the difference.

Hector Martinez scored the first run of the day on an error in the 5th inning. One batter later, Nathan Perry hit an RBI single. Martinez ripped an RBI double in the 6th.

Tanner Duncan allowed 2 hits over 4 scoreless innings of work. Austin Kerns allowed an unearned run on a passed ball, a single, and struck out 2 in the 5th. Diosward Gonzalez followed with 3 scoreless, allowing a hit, walking 1, and striking out 3, and Devin Raftery secured the win with a 1-2-3 9th.

DSL Astros Blue 5, DSL Braves 1

W- Oscar Severino (2-0)
L- Jhonny Diaz (2-2)

Blue home runs: None.

The Blue team seized control with 4 runs in the top of the 9th inning.

Nerio Rodriguez reached on an error in the 6th, advanced to 3rd on a Wilyer Abreu double, and scored the first run of the day on an errant pickoff throw. Nerio hit a sac fly in the 9th to bring in Luis Coronel with the go-ahead run. An error allowed Kendy Moya and Ronaldo Urdaneta to score, and Leonardo Gonzalez capped off the scoring with an RBI single. Abreu (2B, R) and Gonzalez (RBI, SB) both finished with 2 hits.

Renny Ugarte allowed 4 hits and struck out 5 in 4 innings of work. Angel Ortega worked around a walk to throw a scoreless 5th, striking out 1. Oscar Severino went 3 innings and allowed the Braves' only run, which came on a homer hit by Antonio Sucre. Severino allowed 2 other hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Luis Garcia worked around a hit to throw a scoreless 9th, striking out 2.

DSL Astros Orange 2, DSL Indians/Brewers 0

W- Christian Mejias (1-1)
L- Eric Perez (2-4)
S- Luis De Paula (3)

Orange home runs: None.

Three Orange team pitchers combined on a shutout.

Jose Alberto Rivera allowed a hit, walked 3, and fanned 3 in 3 innings. Christian Mejias was next and he allowed 2 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5 in 4 innings. Luis De Paula finished it off by allowing 2 hits over 2 innings.

Fildex Perfecto struck out but reached on a wild pitch in the 7th. He wound up scoring the first run of the game on an error as Michael Garcia stole 2nd. Freudis Nova went 3-4 and scored a run on a Kelvin Perez groundout in the 8th; he also stole a couple of bases, giving him 6 on the year.
