Astros Farm Report: 9-8

And then there was one ...

As I postulated yesterday, Tri-City got started in last night's game (barely), but ended up cancelling the whole shebang due to wet grounds. With the final three contests off, Tri-City's season is officially over.

Which leaves us with Quad Cities as the only Astros minor league team still playing baseball. Whether they play beyond tonight is largely up to them. Down 1-0 in the best-of-three series, Quad Cities bested Peoria 4-1 last night to knot the series at 1-1 under strong pitching from Cristian Javier (W, 6.0IP 3H 1R 1BB 6SO) and Salvador Montano (S, 3.0IP 0H 0R 1BB 4SO). Quad Cities struck first as Kristian Trompiz scored on a RBI single from rehabbing Colin Moran in the third, and Peoria countered with a lead-off home run off Javier to start the fourth inning. But the River Bandits scored two more in the fifth as Marcos Almonte doubled in Ray Henderson, advanced to third on an error and scored on a Chas McCormick sac fly. The lead-off home run from Chuckie Robinson in the sixth was just gravy.

Tonight is another win or go home night. The Bandits will take the field at home at 6:35 CST. Patrick Sandoval will get the start for Quad Cities. He is 2-2 with a 3.83 ERA and a 1.350 WHIP in 9 games (7 starts) at the level. Peoria's starter will be Anthony Shew who has a 5-0 record with a 2.95 ERA and a 1.034 WHIP in 10 games (9 starts) in the Midwest League this season.

The gang over at the Lima Time Time podcast with help from Timothy de Block of Crawfish Boxes fame are putting on a 24-hour podcast/livecast to raise money for Hurricane Harvey relief. They already have a ton of announced guests lined up and some unannounced ones as well (as in yours truly). They will be broadcasting from 7 pm CST Friday the 8th until 7 pm CST Saturday the 9th. (Personally, I'd tune in around 4:00 am when James and Patrick start getting delirious.) The details can be found here. And you can start the donations rolling ahead of time by clicking on the link below.
