August/September Astros MiLB Standouts: By the Numbers

So many stars, so little time!!! Looking at the Astros farm system for August/September by the numbers ...

Unless otherwise noted, all stats are for the month of August plus the first few days of September, for those teams whose seasons carried over into September, and only includes the regular season. Stay tuned for my final By the Numbers and Awards once postseason play concludes.


  • 127: Number of games it took Fresno 1B A.J. Reed to reach 34 home runs, the most in the minor leagues in 2017 (9-4)
  • 104: Number of games it took Corpus Christi OF Kyle Tucker to become a 20/20 man (8-17)
  • 40: Hits in 28 games -- a tie between Fresno IF/OF Tony Kemp and Buies Creek 3B Randy Cesar
  • 40: Strikeouts in August/September -- a tie between Fresno RHP Rogelio Armenteros (30IP) and Quad Cities RHP Cristian Javier (30.2IP)
  • 30.2: Innings pitched by Quad Cities RHP Cristian Javier, the most in the system for August/September
  • 29: RBIs in 29 games for Fresno 1B A.J. Reed
  • 25: Walks drawn by Buies Creek/Corpus Christi OF Myles Straw in 29 games and by Fresno IF Colin Walsh in 31 games
  • 22: Runners caught stealing by DSL C Brandon Benavente in 15 games in August (!!!)
  • 22: Innings played in one day in two extra inning games of a double header for Tri-City on 8-29 by OF Bryan de la Cruz, Gabriel Bracamonte (caught for 10 innings; DH for 12), SS Jonathan Arauz, 3B Adrian Tovalin, 1B Colton Shaver, OF Jake Meyers and OF Andy Pineda
  • 20th: Base stolen by Greeneville OF Wilson Amador on 8-27 to lead the Appy League for the season
  • 19: Scoreless inning streak for Greeneville LHP Adam Bleday came to an end on 8-8 on an unearned run (promoted to Tri-City following this appearance)
  • 17: Total strikeouts by RHP Hansel Paulino (8) and LHP Cole Watts (9) for Greeneville in 8.1 innings on 8-10
  • 16: Total strikeouts from RHP Cristian Javier (10) and LHP Kit Scheetz (6) for Quad Cities in 9 innings of a 3-hit shutout on 8-26
  • 16: Stolen bases from DSL SS Deury Carrasco in 23 games
  • 15.4: Strikeouts per nine innings for Tri-City RHP Collin McKee (29 strikeouts in 17 innings over 9 appearances)
  • 15 Games: Hit streak by Quad Cities OF Ronnie Dawson from 7-21 to 8-6, 12 of which were multi-hit games (hit .483/.551/.672 during the streak)
  • 14: Bullpen appearances by Fresno RHP Jacob Dorris, the most in the system in August/September
  • 12-1: Season record for Quad Cities over Burlington after sweeping that team on 8-2 through 8-4
  • 12: Home runs smacked by Fresno 1B A.J. Reed in 29 games
  • 11: Strikeouts from Corpus Christi RHP Forrest Whitley on 8-17 in his AA debut (two hits and no walks over six shutout innings)
  • 10: Strikeouts from Fresno RHP Rogelio Armenteros in 5 innings pitched on 8-12
  • 10: Strikeouts from Fresno RHP David Martinez in 7 innings on 8-24
  • 9: Strikeouts from Tri-City RHP Corbin Martin in 4 no-hit innings for his first professional save on 8-9
  • 9: Strikeouts from Buies Creek RHP Elieser Hernandez in three innings of relief, working around one hit and two walks
  • 9 Games: Win streak by Quad Cities to start the month of August
  • 8: No-hit innings from RHP Juan Robles and LHP Kit Scheetz for Tri-City on 8-3
  • 8: Stolen bases by the DSL Astros Orange team on 8-4
  • 8: Innings pitched by Fresno RHP Rogelio Armenteros on 8-26, 7.1 of which were no-hit innings
  • 7: Shutout innings from RHP Cy Sneed for Corpus Christi on 8-3
  • 7: Innings pitched by Fresno RHP Rogelio Armenteros on 8-18, 6.2 of which were no-hit innings
  • 5: No-hit innings from RHP Ronel Blanco for Quad Cities on 8-5
  • 5: Shutout innings with 8 strikeouts from RHP Leovanny Rodriguez for Tri-City on 8-24
  • 5: Shutout innings with 7 strikeouts (and the win) from RHP Chad Donato in his Appy League debut on 8-11
  • 5: Times DSL OF Renaigel Martis reached base on 8-25 as he went 4-for-4 with a walk, a double, a triple, 3 RBI and 3 runs scored
  • 5: Times GCL Astros 3B/2B Enmanuel Valdez reached base on the final game of the season, going 3-for-3 with two walks, and RBI and 2 runs scored (9-2)
  • 4: Perfect innings from LHP Sean Stutzman for Buies Creek to start off the month on 8-1
  • 4: Perfect innings from RHP Alex House for Tri-City a day later on 8-2
  • 3: Straight games (8-18 to 8-20) in which Corpus Christi 2B Ryne Birk hit a home run (including a Grand Slam on 8-18)
  • 3: Home runs hit in a Tri-City double header by Tri-City OF Jake Meyers on 9-4, the first of his pro career
  • 2: Hits allowed (and no walks) in a 8-12 Tri-City shutout by RHP Matt Ruppenthal and RHP Diogenes Almengo
  • 2: Hits allowed over 12 innings in a Tri-City extra inning win on 8-29 by RHP Tyler Ivey, RHP Diogenes Almengo and LHP Ben Smith
  • 2: Hits allowed (and no walks) in a seven inning complete game shutout on 9-2 by RHP Jorge Alcala for Buies Creek
  • 2 HR Game Club: DSL SS Freudis "Super" Nova on 8-3; Buies Creek 2B/SS Alex DeGoti on 8-4; Greeneville 1B Roman Garcia on 8-11; Fresno IF Tyler White on 8-20; Fresno 1B A.J.   • 1: Cycle hit by Corpus Christi C Jamie Ritchie on 8-6 (home run in the 2nd, single in the 5th, double in the 7th, triple in the 8th)
  • 1: Walk-off Grand Slam hit by Corpus Christi OF Jason Martin on 8-9
  • 1: RBI the hard way from GCL Astros 3B/2B Enmanuel Valdez who was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and "drove in" the decisive run on 8-11
  • 1: Grand Slam hit by Quad Cities OF Chas McCormick on 8-13, the first home run of his pro career
  • 0: Hits collected by Quad Cities as they were no-hit on 8-22 before clinching a playoff berth the next day
  • 0: Inherited baserunners allowed to score by Corpus Christi RHP Nick Hernandez out of 11 (Quad Cities LHP Salvador Montano stranded 11 of 14 and Corpus Christi RHP Ralph Garza stranded 10 of 12)
