ROSTER MOVES/TRANSACTIONS

Another quiet week on the transaction front ...

LHP Anthony Gose is officially back with the Rangers as of March 9th. Also, former Astro and Free Agent RHP Tyler Clippard signed with the Blue Jays last week.

You can check the cumulative Astros offseason transaction list here to see if you've missed any of the posted moves this offseason.

SPRING TRAINING MINOR LEAGUE STANDOUTS

Several of my minor leaguers did themselves proud in major league camp since I last wrote ...

OF Jon Kemmer - Hit .750 in four games (2HR 4RBI 5R BB 2SO); hitting .333/.478/.667 in 12 games this Spring

2B/SS Alex DeGoti - Hit .429 in six games (2B 3R 2BB 2SO); hitting .286/.375/.429 in 12 games this Spring

C Garrett Stubbs - Hit .429 five games (HR 3RBI 2R); hitting .286/.286/.476 in 12 games this Spring

OF Kyle Tucker - Hit .400 in five games (3B HR 6RBI 3R 2BB SO SF SB); hitting .387/.412/.871(!) in 13 games this Spring

As the season gets closer, fewer of the minor league pitchers are getting innings, but of those that have RHP Brendan McCurry had the best week, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in two appearances and being awarded the win in one of those. In six appearances this Spring, McCurry has a 0.00 ERA and a 1.143 WHIP.

I realize that these are tiny samples, but I also believe that any minor league players who leave a good impression with the front office by holding their own with the major league team are doing themselves a favor. How they perform and how they conduct themselves in big league camp will be remembered when a need arises on the major league club.

Baseball Prospectus Table for Two: Previewing the Houston Astros
"you’ve gotta squint really hard to not see this team in contention"

MiLB finished their pitcher farm system rankings last week. Here are the bottom 10 systemsthe middle 10 systems and the top 10 systems (including the Astros at #10).

Also, here are their position player farm system rankings: the bottom 10 systems, the middle 10 systems (including the Astros at #15) and the top 10 systems.

In case you missed it, here is my Astros Consensus Top 32 Prospect Rankings, incorporating rankings from Baseball America, MLB Pipeline, Baseball Prospectus and FanGraphs.

Also, in case you missed it, I started a "Beyond the Top 30" series, looking at both those Astros players who are considered Top 30 prospects and others at each position who may not be top talents (or may grow to be), but will be interesting to watch nonetheless. So far we've looked at ...
