Down East 9, Fayetteville 6 in 10 innings

W- Joe Barlow (3-0)
L- Jacob Billingsley (0-1)
S- DeMarcus Evans (4)

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Woodpeckers were one out away from a scoreless top of the 10th... but the Wood Ducks had other ideas.

Parker Mushinski went 5.1 innings and allowed two runs (one inherited runner charged to him) on four hits, walked two, and set a new career-high with ten strikeouts; this outing was the first time that he recorded double-digit strikeouts as a pro. Hunter Martin was the first man out of the Fayetteville bullpen and he allowed four runs on three hits and walked two in 1.2 innings. Willy Collado turned in two more scoreless innings as he allowed a hit and struck out three. Jacob Billingsley got the 10th and he allowed the go-ahead bases-loaded two-out, two-run single and then an error allowed the last runner to cross the plate. All three runs were unearned; he issued two walks to load the bases.

The Woodpeckers opened the scoring in the 2nd inning thanks to a pair of two-run singles from Bryan de la Cruz and Seth Beer. Beer hit another RBI single in the 7th and Scott Manea's sac fly in the 8th tied the game at 6. Beer and Jonathan Arauz both had two hits apiece in this game; Arauz scored twice and stole a base (3).

J.P. France goes up against Jason Bahr in game two of this series. First pitch is at 5:00 Eastern.
