Results for December 29, 2016-January 1, 2017

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras went 2-5 with a pair of RBI singles as Obregón seized control of Thursday's game in Mazatlán by scoring all of their 11 runs in the final two frames to come away with an 11-4 win. Heras struck out in his only plate appearance on Friday; the Yaquis dropped that night's game by a score of 3-2.

LIGA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL ROBERTO CLEMENTE

Drew Ferguson finished 2-4 with a double in Santurce's 4-1 loss to Caguas on Friday.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Connor MacDonald went 1-4 with an RBI groundout in the 2nd inning of Brisbane's 8-3 loss to Adelaide on Thursday.

In the first game of the Bandits' doubleheader on Saturday, a 13-10 win, MacDonald finished 2-4 with an RBI single in the 3rd and a solo home run in the 5th, his second homer of the season. Brisbane swept the twinbill with a 13-5 win; MacDonald went 3-4 with a sac fly in the 1st and an RBI single in the 5th.

Results for December 16-18, 2016

LIDOM

Friday: Toros 6, Águilas 0

Teoscar Hernandez went 1-4 with two strikeouts.

Saturday: Licey 2, Gigantes 1

Andrew Aplin appeared as a pinch-runner in the 8th and finished the game in left field. He did not have a plate appearance.

Saturday: Toros 5, Águilas 3

Teoscar went 0-4. He also went 0-4 in Toros' 6-1 loss to Escogido on Sunday.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Obregón took on Los Mochis this weekend, here's how Leo Heras fared.

Heras was 0-3 with a walk and two strikeouts in a 5-2 win on Friday. He went 0-3 in an 8-2 loss on Saturday, and on Sunday, he hit an RBI single that accounted for Obregón's only run in a 3-1 defeat.

LIGA VENEZOLANA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Now, let's check in on Marwin Gonzalez.

He went 0-4 on Friday as Aragua topped Caracas 8-6 and 0-2 with a walk and a run scored in their 9-2 win over La Guaira on Sunday.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Next, we'll check up on Connor MacDonald, who is back in his homeland with the Brisbane Bandits.

The Bandits played a doubleheader with Adelaide on Saturday; MacDonald went 1-3 in game 1, which was a 4-3 win for the Bite. He went 0-2 with a walk in game 2, a 3-0 Brisbane victory. MacDonald finished 0-4 with a run scored as the Bite won 6-4 on Sunday.

LIDOM

Wednesday: Toros 7, Gigantes 4

Teoscar Hernandez led the offensive charge for Toros with a couple of RBI singles. He also stole his fourth base of the Dominican campaign.

Reymin Guduan allowed a run on two hits and struck out the side for Gigantes in the 7th inning.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras' only hit on Wednesday was a double as Obregón was dispatched by Jalisco by a score of 10-2. Heras walked and scored a run in a 7-3 loss on Thursday.

LIGA VENEZOLANA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Marwin Gonzalez was 1-4 as Aragua walked off with a 3-2 loss in Zulia on Wednesday. He finished 0-4 in their 5-1 victory on Thursday.

LIGA PARALELA

Nestor Tejada was 0-4 on Wednesday as Caracas dropped the third and deciding game of the Liga Paralela's championship series to Lara by a score of 1-0.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Brisbane 10, Adelaide 6

Note: This game was played today.

Connor MacDonald went 1-3 and drove in Brisbane's second run of the evening with a sacrifice fly in the 2nd inning. In the 7th, he singled, stole second, and came around to score on a single from Jake Turcato.

Friday's games

Licey 13, Gigantes 0

Andrew Aplin entered the game as a defensive replacement in the 8th and grounded out in his only at-bat in the 9th.

Saturday's games

Gigantes 7, Estrellas 4 in 12 innings

Reymin Guduan got the win for Gigantes, allowing two hits over 1.1 scoreless innings. Osvaldo Duarte appeared as a pinch-runner in the 10th for Estrellas.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras hit an RBI double on Friday, driving in the only run of Obregón's 1-0 win over Hermosillo. He tripled and scored Obregón's only run as they dropped a 4-1 game on Saturday. In Obregón's 4-3 loss on Sunday, Heras went 0-2, drew two walks, and scored a run.

LIGA VENEZOLANA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Aragua took on Magallanes twice this weekend; Marwin Gonzalez went 0-3 in a 5-1 loss on Friday and finished 1-3 in their 8-5 win on Saturday.

LIGA PARALELA

Friday's games

Nestor Tejada went 3-5 with an RBI for Caracas in their 7-5 win over La Guaira, and Ronaldo Urdaneta finished 1-5 as Zulia topped the Phillies 6-0.

Saturday's games

Tejada only had one hit on Saturday, but it was a solo home run as Caracas beat the Red Sox 9-4.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Connor MacDonald smacked a two-run double in the 4th inning of the second game of Brisbane's doubleheader with Sydney, a game that the Blue Sox would go on to win 9-8 in nine innings. He went 0-3 with a walk and a strikeout in a 5-1 loss on Sunday.

Duarte once again appeared as a pinch-runner, this time in the 9th.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras finished 3-4 with an RBI single, a two-run double, and scored two runs in Obregón's 6-4 win over Culiacán on Friday. He went 0-4 in a 3-1 loss on Saturday, and 0-2 with a walk and a stolen base on Sunday.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Connor MacDonald clubbed a three-run home run in the first game of Brisbane's Saturday doubleheader with Melbourne, which accounted for all of his team's runs in a 7-3 loss. The second game was rained out, but that was alright since they got it in on Sunday.

The Bandits suffered the sweep due to a late meltdown in the first game that sent them to a 6-5 loss; MacDonald hit a sacrifice fly in the 4th. They dropped the second game by a score of 7-3; MacDonald drove in another run with an RBI single in the 6th inning.

LIGA VENEZOLANA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Marwin Gonzalez is now playing for Aragua. He went 2-3 in his season debut, a 4-1 loss to Lara on Friday. Marwin went 1-4 in a 2-1, 10-inning win over Margarita on Saturday, and he finished 0-4 with a walk as Margarita won 8-7 on Sunday.

LIGA PARALELA

Bravos/Caribes 11, Detroit 0

Alfredo Angarita went 2-3 with a double and scored twice in a Bravos/Caribes romp.

Gigantes 11, Licey 6

Reymin Guduan got the final out of the 8th and the first out of the 9th for Gigantes, but he allowed three runs on three hits. Well, two of those runs were inherited runners that were charged to him.

Andrew Aplin came on as a defensive replacement for Licey and went 0-2 with a run scored.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Navojoa 8, Obregón 7 in 11 innings

Leo Heras finished a home run shy of the cycle in five trips to the plate; he tripled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th, hit an RBI single in the 10th, and also stole a base, his 6th of the LMP campaign.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Melbourne 8, Brisbane 0

Tough night for the Banditos as they were held to just two hits. Connor MacDonald went 0-3 and struck out twice.

LIGA COLOMBIANA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL

Samir Caraballo, an infielder who played in the Dominican Summer League in 2016, is playing winter ball in his native Colombia with the Leones de Montería.

He is currently 3-20 with a couple of runs scored for his club, slashing .150/.150/.227.

According to the league's Wikipedia page, the Rentería Foundation, led by former Major League shortstop Edgar Renteria, owns and operates the league. As such, former MLB players from Colombia are heavily involved with the league.

The LCBP has four teams: Barranquilla, Sincelejo, Montería, and Cartagena, all of which are located on the Caribbean coast. Population-wise, Montería is slightly larger than Corpus Christi.

How did the Astros playing overseas fare during this Thanksgiving holiday?

LIDOM

Friday's games

Teoscar Hernandez finished 1-3 with a walk and scored a run in Toros' 5-3 win over Águilas. This was the only game that was played that night; the other two were rained out, which has been a problem in the Dominican this season.

Saturday's games

Teoscar went 1-4 and scored on a two-run single from Eugenio Velez, which turned out to be the decisive hit in Toros' 3-2 win over Estrellas.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

The Brisbane Bandits split their series with Perth this past weekend. Connor MacDonald finished 3-15 with a run scored, two walks, and seven strikeouts. He was 2-3 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, which Perth won 2-1.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras weent 3-10 at the plate as Obregón swept Mexicali in a three-game series, their last one before the All-Star break. Heras also took part in the LMP All-Star Game and got the start in right field, striking out in both of his plate appearances.

LIGA PARALELA

Thursday's games

Nestor Tejada went 2-4 for Caracas in their 5-3 loss to Bravos/Caribes.

Eduardo Guzman was 0-2 in Zulia's 6-5 win over Aragua.

Juan Infante came on as a pinch runner and scored in La Guaira's 7-6 win over the Tigers.

Friday's games

Ronaldo Urdaneta went 1-3 with a double, but it was a long night for Zulia as they got thrashed 15-2 by Lara.

Leo Heras finished 2-3 with a walk and scored a run in Obregón's 4-3 loss to Hermosillo on Saturday and went 0-4 with a walk and a run scored in an 8-2 win on Sunday.

LIGA DE BEISBOL PROFESIONAL ROBERTO CLEMENTE

Roberto Peña singled and walked before getting lifted for a pinch-hitter in Santurce's 6-5 loss to Mayagüez on Saturday.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Brisbane took their first series of the year with a 4-2 win over Canberra on Sunday. Connor MacDonald singled to lead off the 6th inning and scored the Bandits' first run on a single from Thomas Milone. MacDonald reached on an error in the 8th and was credited with an RBI on the play.

The Bandits will travel to Perth for a four-game set beginning on Thursday.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Francis Martes' final appearance of the Arizona Fall League was his best. In five shutout innings, he allowed just two hits, walked two, and struck out seven in Glendale's 3-1 victory over Peoria.

Nick Tanielu capped off a strong showing in Arizona by going 2-4 with an RBI double in the 2nd inning. He would eventually score on a sacrifice fly from Garrett Stubbs.

LIDOM

César Valdéz allowed two hits and struck out four over six shutout frames and got the win as Licey blanked Gigantes 5-0.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras went 2-3 and hit a solo home run in Obregón's 5-3 loss to Navojoa. Heras now has three home runs in the LMP campaign.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Connor MacDonald was in Brisbane's starting lineup once again, this time at first base. He finished 0-2 with a walk and a strikeout in the Bandits' 8-3 win over Canberra.

ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

Nick Tanielu had a nice day at the plate, finishing 2-5 with a double and a solo home run in Glendale's 10-0 win over Mesa.

LIDOM

Reymin Guduan got the final out of the 7th in Gigantes' 10-6 loss to Licey.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACIFICO

Leo Heras opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the 1st inning in Obregón's 5-3 win over Navojoa; he was thrown out at the plate trying for an inside-the-park home run.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Because Australia is many hours ahead of the Central Time Zone, the ABL has already celebrated its Opening Day.

Connor MacDonald got the start in left field in Brisbane's 3-2 win over Canberra; he was 0-2 with a couple of walks and a couple of strikeouts.

Caribbean Series, ABL Championship Series Game 2 Recap

Results for Friday, February 6, 2015

CARIBBEAN SERIES

Puerto Rico 3, Dominican Republic 2

The Dominicans tied the game at 2 in the top of the 9th.... only to see Puerto Rico walk off in the bottom of the inning. Jonathan Villar went 0-4.

Mexico lost to Venezuela, so the tie for 2nd between the Dominican Republic and Mexico still stands. But, these two teams meet today at 12:05 Atlantic for the right to take on Venezuela in the final tomorrow.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

ABL Championship Series Game 2: Perth 5, Adelaide 3 in 10 innings (Series tied 1-1)

The Heat have forced a winner-take-all game 3 with this win. Tyler Brunnemann was saddled with the loss as he allowed a run (inherited runner charged to him), a hit, and walked 1 in 1.2 innings. Chan-Jong Moon hit an RBI double in the 7th which tied the game at 3. He also drew 2 walks.

Game 3 is for all the marbles. It'll start at 7:00 Australian Central Time.

Caribbean Series, ABL Championship Game 1 Recaps

CARIBBEAN SERIES

Dominican Republic 3, Mexico 2

Jonathan Villar, representing the Dominican Republic, is the only player in the Astros organization playing in the Caribbean Series. Omar Lopez, who will be managing Lancaster in the 2015 season, is at the helm for Venezuela and he's got them topping the table as the lone undefeated team. However, the Dominicans and Mexico are right on their tail at 2-1.

The DR dealt Mexico its first loss of the series as they scored their 3 runs in the final 2 innings of the game. Villar hit a double and drew 2 walks.

Tonight, the Dominican Republic will take on the hosts, Puerto Rico, at 6:30 Atlantic. Venezuela will take on Mexico in the early game; that one will get underway at 12:30.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

ABL Championship Series: Adelaide 3, Perth 2 (Adelaide leads series 1-0)

Chan-Jong Moon went 0-4 with 2 strikeouts in the #2 spot for the Bite. Tyler Brunnemann got the save by getting the final 2 outs of the game.

Game 2 of this series will take place at 7:00 Australian Central Time. This is a best-of-3 series.

Astros Winter League Playoff Recaps

Results for January 22-25, 2015

Uh.... I'm sure Jayne has noticed my slacking off again. Please, excuse me while I go run for cover.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE


The Adelaide Bite finished the regular season by taking 3 of 4 from the Melbourne Aces. They won the first 2, dropped the 3rd, and won the finale. Chan-Jong Moon appeared in all 4 games for the Bite and went 4-10 with a double, 2 RBI, 3 walks, 2 strikeouts, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Moon finished the regular season with 20 swipes. Tyler Brunnemann appeared in game 2 of this series and got the save (8); he walked 2 in the 9th but was able to avoid further trouble; he also struck out 2.

Jared Cruz also appeared in all 4 games in the series for Melbourne. He finished 2-9 with a double, 2 runs scored, 6 strikeouts, and a stolen base (2).

By virtue of having the ABL's best record, the Adelaide Bite will have a bye to the Championship Series, which begins on February 6.

LIDOM

A new champion was crowned in the Dominican Republic, and it was los Gigantes del Cibao. They won the best-of-9 series over Estrellas with a 12-5 win in game 8 yesterday. Gigantes faced an early 2-0 deficit in the series, but they turned the tables on Estrellas by winning the next 4 games to take the series lead, and eventually, they got the win. This is Gigantes' first title. For Estrellas, their title drought continues; their last LIDOM championship occurred in 1968.

James Hoyt appeared in game 7, which was a 2-1 Estrellas victory. He came on in the 6th and although he issued a walk, he was able to get the final 2 outs of the inning.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Since I last recapped games, Culiacán has taken control of the LMP Finals as they have a 3-1 lead over Jalisco. Tonight is their first chance to close out the series; first pitch is at 7:30 Mountain.

In the 3 games that I haven't recapped, Leo Heras went 4-11 with 2 RBI, a walk, 4 strikeouts, and a stolen base, his 1st of the series.

LIGA DE BÉISBOL PROFESIONAL ROBERTO CLEMENTE

Santurce and Mayagüez traded shutouts on Friday and Saturday, and then Santurce blew up on Sunday with a 9-1 thrashing to take a 3-2 lead in the LBPRC championship series.

Ruben Sosa had a solid weekend at the top of the Cangrejeros lineup; he went 5-9 with an RBI, 3 runs scored, 3 walks, and 2 stolen bases, giving him 4 in the series. Travis Ballew appeared out of the bullpen on Saturday and Sunday and was credited with a hold on Sunday. Ballew allowed 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 2.2 scoreless innings (1 Saturday, 1.2 Sunday).

The series continues on Tuesday with Santurce looking to finish it off.

Astros Winter League Recaps

Results for Wednesday, January 21, 2015 (and one from today)

We're winding down the regular season Down Under, while two Finals series in the Caribbean are underway.

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Adelaide 6, Melbourne 4

Down 4-2 heading into the 6th, the Bite took the lead with a 3-run inning. Chan-Jong Moon finished 1-2 with a sac fly in that 3-run 6th inning and a run scored. Jared Cruz went 1-4 with 2 strikeouts for the Aces.

Game 2 of this series will take place at 7:05 Australian Central Time.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Culiacán 11, Jalisco 8 (Culiacán leads series 1-0)

The Tomateros erupted in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th innings as they scored all 11 of their runs in those 3 innings, giving them an 11-2 lead that withstood a Jalisco rally that lasted through the final 4 innings of this game. Leo Heras, in the #3 spot as usual for Jalisco, went 1-5 with a run scored and 3 strikeouts.

Game 2 of the LMP Finals is at 8:30.

LIGA DE BÉISBOL PROFESIONAL ROBERTO CLEMENTE

Santurce 3, Mayagüez 2 in 14 innings (Series tied 1-1)



Santurce tied the game at 2 all the way back in the 5th inning, thanks to Ruben Sosa's solo homer. Ballew ended up getting the win as he allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1 over 2 scoreless. He did have to battle himself in the 13th as he uncorked 2 wild pitches; the 2nd resulted in the go-ahead run making it to 3rd.

The series will resume on Friday in Mayagüez.

Astros Winter League Recaps

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Adelaide's magic number to clinch the best record in the ABL entering the weekend was 2. They pounded Melbourne 10-3, and the other thing they needed was a Perth loss. Well, they got the Perth loss in the same night as Canberra topped them 7-5, and as a result, Adelaide clinched the top spot in the ABL, and a spot in the ABL Championship Series.

Melbourne 6, Adelaide 4

The Championship Series is underway! Estrellas stormed out of the gates with an 11-2 victory on Saturday.

Sunday: Estrellas 7, Gigantes 3 (Estrellas leads 2-0)

James Hoyt was the 3rd reliever to appear for Gigantes and pitched 1.2 perfect innings, striking out 1.

Game 3 of this series will take place tomorrow at 7:30 Atlantic.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Jalisco 5, Obregón 3 (Jalisco wins series 4-2)

In their first year in Guadalajara, the team formerly known as the Algodoneros de Guasave will be playing for a championship. They'll await the winner of the Mexicali-Culiacán series; they're playing a deciding game 7 tonight.

Leo Heras went 0-2 with a walk.

Mayagüez 2, Santurce 1 in 11 innings 

Ruben Sosa finished 1-4 and scored the only Santurce run in the 3rd. Mayagüez scored 1 in the bottom of the 9th to tie, and 1 in the 11th to win. Travis Ballew got the loss; he allowed the winning run on 2 hits and walked 3 in 1.1 innings.

Carolina 4, Caguas 0

Carlos Corporán doubled in 3 at-bats and walked for Carolina. Roberto Peña appeared as a.... pinch-runner in the 9th for Caguas.

Sunday: Mayagüez 1, Carolina 0

Corporán went 0-3, while Jobduan Morales had a pinch-hit double in the 8th for Carolina.

The LBPRC Championship Series is set; Santurce will face off against Mayagüez beginning tomorrow.

PROBEIS PANAMA

Panama is on to their championship series as well. Caballos defeated Indios 5-1 on Friday, which set up the final matchup between them and Águilas. Telvin Nash clubbed 2 homers, while Tyler White went 0-2 with a walk. For Indios, Rodrigo Ayarza went 0-3, Jose Montero allowed a hit and struck out 2 over 2 scoreless, and Juan Delis allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 1 in the 9th.

The Championship Series began yesterday, and it was all Caballos as they romped to a 17-2 win over Indios. Nash went 1-2 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored, Jack Mayfield had a double in 4 at-bats and scored twice, and Tyler White struck out in his only at-bat.

Game 2 of this series is tonight at 7:00 Eastern.

Astros Winter League Recaps

Results for Friday, January 17, 2015 (and one from today)

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Adelaide 10, Melbourne 3

The Bite are closing in on clinching the top spot in the ABL with this win; their magic number is now 2, so a Perth loss combined with an Adelaide win will wrap it up for them. Before I get to this game, these two teams decided to have a Royal Rumble of their own on Friday night.


Two players from each side were punished for their roles in the incident. Now... on to this game.

Adelaide busted this game wide open with a 5-run 4th inning that pushed their lead to 8-2. Chan-Jong Moon finished 2-5 with a 2-run double in that 4th inning and scored 2 runs. He also stole a base (15) in the 1st. Tyler Brunnemann gave up a single to Jared Cruz to begin the 9th, but he retired the next 3 Melbourne batters to end the game. Cruz also drew a walk for the Aces.

The Bite will look for the sweep at 1:00 Australian Central Time.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Jalisco 5, Obregón 3 (Jalisco leads series 3-2)

The Horsemen broke a 3-3 tie with a couple of runs in the top of the 9th. Leo Heras went 2-4 and hit an RBI single that gave Jalisco a 4-3 lead. He also scored a run in the 6th.

Jalisco will get their first chance to close out the series tomorrow at home at 12:30.

LIGA DE BÉISBOL PROFESIONAL ROBERTO CLEMENTE

Carolina 7, Caguas 0

All the scoring was done in 2 innings. Carlos Corporán went 1-4, Jobduan Morales replaced him behind the plate in the 8th and did not appear at the plate.

Santurce 4, Mayagüez 3 in 11 innings

Ruben Sosa went 1-4. Travis Ballew got the win as Santurce walked off in the bottom of the 11th. He walked 1 and struck out 1 in the top half.

The matchups you see above are the same for tonight; the only difference is a change of venue. Both games will take place at 7:30 Atlantic.

Results for Thursday, January 15, 2015 (and one from today)

AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE

Thursday: Adelaide 2, Melbourne 1

The Bite walked off with the win as Chan-Jong Moon scored the winning run on a single hit by Craig Maddox. Moon scored both Adelaide runs in this game; he hit a solo homer (5) in the 4th to put them on the board. He also stole a base (12).

Jared Cruz was 0-3 with a strikeout for the Aces; Cruz was acquired last September from the Braves as the player to be named later for Andrew Robinson.

Friday: Adelaide 8, Melbourne 2

Moon went 1-3 with a walk, a run scored, and 2 steals (14). Cruz finished 1-2 with 2 walks and scored a run.

Game 3 of this series will take place at 7:00 Australian Central time.

LIDOM

Águilas 5, Toros 3

Jonathan Villar went 2-5 with 3 strikeouts for Águilas.

The final 2 games of the round robin will not be played, as the Finals have been set; Gigantes will take on Estrellas. Estrellas clinched their spot with a 10-4 win over Gigantes, which basically made this game moot from a standings perspective.

LIGA MEXICANA DEL PACÍFICO

Obregón 5, Jalisco 1 (Series tied 2-2)

Leo Heras smacked a solo homer in the 6th for Jalisco's only run of the evening.

Game 5 is set for a 7:30 Mountain start.
