No future Astros with birthdays today, but two former Astros mark the day ~
1B/3B Brandon Laird (27)
Drafted by the Yankees in the 27th round in 2007, Laird was selected off waivers from the Yankees in September 2012. Laird played in 42 games for Houston in 2012 and 2013, hitting .198/.248/.406 with four doubles, six home runs and 15 RBI. He is currently playing in the National's organization.
LHP Dave Roberts (died January 9, 2009 at age 64)
An absolute workhorse in the four seasons that he pitched for Houston (1972 to 1975), Roberts pitched 843.2 innings for the Astros. He was 47-44 with 34 complete games, 11 shutouts, four saves, a 3.69 ERA and a 1.358 WHIP. In 13 seasons in the majors (from 1969 to 1981), he also played for San Diego, Detroit, Chicago Cubs, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Seattle and the New York Mets.

Happy Birthday - 6/30
Happy Birthday to ~
RHP Jonas Dufek (26)
A ninth round pick by the Astros in 2011 out of Creighton, Dufek had a simply fantastic end to his 2013 season. After his promotion to Corpus Christi in late July, he was 7-0 with four saves, a 0.47 ERA and a 0.776 WHIP in 14 appearances. He walked one and struck out 20 in 19+ innings. For the season, including his 36 appearances with Lancaster, he had a 3.19 ERA and a 1.241 WHIP. That's the good news. The bad news is that Dufek is currently on Team Rehab in Kissimmee after undergoing Tommy John surgery earlier this year.

Roberts came to the Colt .45's after having retired from baseball and played in 77 games for Houston in 1962 and 1964. This excellent article from Baseball-Reference outlines some of the problems that faced the Panamanian born Roberts during his 22 seasons of playing professional baseball in the minor leagues, major league and in Japan.
C Otis Thornton (69)
Thornton was drafted by Houston in the 68th round in 1965. In two major league games (three at-bats), he wasn't able to get that one major league hit but he did get an RBI. An interesting side note, the two games he played in were both ends of a double-header in Montreal. He was the first player in major league history to play his entire major league career outside of the United States.

Astros Bench Coach Eduardo Perez (44)
Perez was drafted by the Angels in the first round in 1991 and made his major league debut two years later. Perez spent 13 seasons playing primarily first base and outfield for six different teams. 2B Jose Vallejo (25)
First signed by the Rangers as a NDFA out of the Dominican Republic in 2005, Vallejo came to the Astros in the Pudge Rodriguez trade in 2009 as the player to be named later (along with Matt Nevarez). A switch-hitting second baseman, he has shown mixed results this season as he played for Lancaster, Corpus Christi and Oklahoma City. Although his overall line for the season at .215/.284/.262/.546 is less than impressive, he showed great improvement in the latter part of the season, compiling a .273/.344/.309/.653 line after the All-Star game. He also provided solid defense at second base, putting up a .987 fielding percentage at that position.
