Corpus Christi sweep!

Round Rock 5, Oklahoma City 3

W- Kent Emanuel (7-1)
L- Rob Zastryzny (3-5)
S- Brendan McCurry (6)

RR home runs: Nick Tanielu (14, 2-run in 4th)

After Round Rock scored three in the 4th, OKC responded with three in the top of the 5th to tie the game. The Express regained control with a pair in the bottom of the 5th and kept the Dodgers at bay the rest of the way.

Kent Emanuel went 5.2 innings and allowed three runs on four hits, walked two, and struck out four. The bullpen finished things off with 3.1 scoreless; Ralph Garza Jr. was the first man and he allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out three in 1.1 innings. Brad Peacock worked around a couple of walks to throw a scoreless 8th, striking out one, and Brendan McCurry finished things off by striking out the side in order in the 9th.

Round Rock's three in the 4th came on an RBI single from Kyle Tucker and a two-run blast from Nick Tanielu. Myles Straw put the E-Train back in front in the 5th with an RBI triple and he scored the final run of the evening on Drew Ferguson's sac fly. Tanielu and Straw both finished with two hits on the night.

Ryan Hartman goes up against Logan Bawcom in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 2, Frisco 1

W- Tyler Ivey (4-0)
L- Collin Wiles (0-3)
S- Enoli Paredes (1)

CC home runs: None.

The Hooks swept the Roughriders out of the Coastal Bend region behind a pair of solid mound performances.

Tyler Ivey pitched 5.1 innings and allowed three hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked two, and struck out five. Enoli Paredes shut it down over the final 3.2 innings as he allowed just one hit, walked one, and struck out six.

Corpus Christi's two runs came in the 3rd inning as they were able to take advantage of a bases-loaded situation with one out. Colton Shaver lined into a force out that resulted in Jacob Meyers scoring the first run of the night and Jake Adams hit an RBI single.

The Hooks will now begin their final series against a South Division team in 2019 as they start a three-game set with Midland tonight at 7:15. Forrest Whitley will face James Naile in game one.

Down East 11, Fayetteville 1

W- Cole Uvila (5-3)
L- Shawn Dubin (4-5)
S- Jefferson Medina (5)

Fayetteville home runs: Miguelangel Sierra (12, solo in 9th)

The Woodpeckers were foiled in their bid to sweep the series as they got hammered.

Miguelangel Sierra spoiled the shutout with his homer in the 9th, so... there's that.

When the pitching staff surrenders eleven runs in nine innings and no one had a clean outing, it was definitely a rough night at the office.

Fayetteville will start a three-game series in Frederick at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 3, Beloit 2

W- Matt Ruppenthal (4-6)
L- Chase Cohen (5-10)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos came alive after stretch time as they scored three in the bottom of the 7th to take the lead.

Quad Cities loaded the bases to lead off the 7th and they capitalized by taking the lead. Wilyer Abreu put them on the board with an RBI single. Grae Kessinger walked in Alex Holderbach to tie the game and Oscar Campos put the Banditos in front with a sac fly. Campos finished 3-3 on the night while Abreu went 2-4 with a stolen base.

José Alberto Rivera threw four innings and allowed two runs on an RBI triple and a sac fly, walked three, and struck out five. Matt Ruppenthal tagged in to throw five scoreless, allowing a hit, walking two, and striking out seven.

R.J. Freure will get the start in the finale and he'll go up against Angello Infante at 6:35.

Tri-City 4, Aberdeen 3

W- Edgardo Sandoval (1-3)
L- Ryan Conroy (4-4)
S- Shea Barry (2)

TC home runs: Nate Perry (9, solo in 1st)

The ValleyCats held off a late charge from the Ironbirds to get even in this series.

Nate Perry whacked a solo homer in the 1st to open the scoring. Luis Santana hit an RBI single in the 2nd and in the 3rd, Joe Perez ripped an RBI double and came around to score on a single from Juan Paulino. Santana finished 3-3 on the night while Perry and Perez finished 2-4; the two of them also scored twice, which meant that they scored all of Tri-City's runs.

Angel Macuare walked one and struck out three over two scoreless innings. Edgardo Sandoval tagged in for 5.1 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits, walked one, and struck out four. Shea Barry got the last 1.2 innings and he walked one and struck out three to get the save.

Jairo Lopez will take on Kevin Magee in the series finale. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Mets 4, GCL Astros 2

W- Adrian Aybar (1-2)
L- Franny Cobos (3-1)
S- Jace Beck (1)

GCL home runs: Nerio Rodriguez (2, 2-run in 8th)

Nerio Rodriguez went 3-4 and smacked a two-run homer in the 8th; it's the second straight game in which he's homered. Rainier Rivas went 2-4; he's played in five games and he's recorded two hits in four of them.

Franny Cobos threw five innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and struck out three.

DSL Astros 7, DSL Braves 6 (11 innings)

W- Miguel Padilla (4-1)
L- Royber Salinas (2-3)

DSL home runs: None.

Things escalated in the 11th as the Dominican 'Stros broke a 3-3 tie with four in the top half and then had to fend off the Braves, who responded by scoring three in the bottom half.

Miguel Palma smacked a two-run triple in the 6th. Yohander Martinez went 2-4 with an RBI single and scored three runs.

Bryan Martinez was the first man out of the bullpen and he went 4.2 innings and allowed a run on four hits and struck out two.

Results for Thursday, June 27, 2019

This will be a little abridged as I'm on my way to College Station today.

San Antonio 3, Round Rock 0

W- Burch Smith (6-3)
L- Rogelio Armenteros (3-5)
S- Taylor Williams (3)

RR home runs: None.

Josh Rojas' double was Round Rock's only hit in this game.

Rogelio Armenteros allowed five hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked one, and struck out six in 4.1 innings. Kent Emanuel allowed a run on two hits in 1.2 innings and Brady Rodgers allowed a solo homer and struck out two in two innings.

Cionel Pérez faces Zach Brown at 7:05.

Corpus Christi 3, Amarillo 2

W- Cristian Javier (4-2, 6-2 season)
L- Kyle Lloyd (2-5)
S- Willy Collado (1, 4 season)

CC home runs: Colton Shaver (3, 9 season; solo in 5th), Chuckie Robinson (4, solo in 5th), Ronnie Dawson (12, solo in 5th)

Three solo home runs proved to be enough for the Hooks as they opened up the second half with a win in the Panhandle.

Colton Shaver and Chuckie Robinson led off the 5th with solo homers and Ronnie Dawson launched one of his own with two outs in the inning. Shaver, Robinson, and Seth Beer had two hits apiece.

Cristian Javier allowed two runs on two hits, one of which was a solo homer, walked four, and struck out seven in 6.2 innings. Willy Collado struck out three over the final 2.1 innings to earn the save.

J.B. Bukauskas gets the start in game two. First pitch is at 7:05.

Salem 12, Fayetteville 6

W- Erich Uelmen (2-2)
L- Brett Conine (3-2, 6-4 season)

Fayetteville home runs: Jacob Meyers (7, 2-run in 6th), Chandler Taylor (5, grand slam in 8th)

The Pelicans stormed out to a 9-0 lead and Fayetteville... well, they weren't really in this one.

Jacob Meyers hit a two-run homer in the 6th and Chandler Taylor launched a grand slam in the 8th, but Myrtle Beach had this game locked up long ago. Taylor and Corey Julks had two hits apiece.

Brett Conine hit a rare speed bump as he allowed six runs on nine hits (grand slam), walked one, and struck out one in 3.2 innings. Leovanny Rodríguez was the first man out of the Woodpeckers' bullpen and he allowed three runs on four hits (two solo homers) and struck out one in two innings. Humberto Castellanos took over for 2.1 innings and he allowed a run on four hits while striking out three, and Jacob Billingsley allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out two in the 9th.

Shawn Dubin takes on Erick Leal in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 10, Burlington 2

W- Felipe Tejada (3-0)
L- Robinson Pina (4-3)

QC home runs: None.

The Banditos were all over the Bees early as they jumped out to a 7-2 lead after the first two innings.

Felipe Tejada allowed two runs on four hits, walked four, and struck out four in five innings. Devin Conn and Joey Gonzalez finished it off with two scoreless innings apiece. Conn walked three and struck out two, while Gonzalez walked two and fanned four.

Quad Cities busted this game open immediately by turning a bases-loaded situation into five runs. Oscar Campos started it off with an RBI single and then David Hensley brought everyone home with a double. He wound up scoring on a single from Jonathan Lacroix. In the 2nd inning, Campos grounded into a force out that allowed Ross Adolph to score and an error on the play allowed Ramiro Rodríguez to score another run.

Hensley smacked an RBI triple in the 4th and he strolled home on Freúdis Nova's double. César Salazar capped off the evening by grounding into a force out that scored Rodríguez. Hensley finished 4-5 and was a home run shy of the cycle. Lacroix, Campos, and Rodríguez all had two hits on the evening.

Jonathan Bermúdez makes the first start of his career tonight at 6:35. He'll take on Cole Duensing.

Lowell 7, Tri-City 3

W- Yusniel Padrón-Artilles (2-0)
L- Angel Macuare (0-2)

TC home runs: Nathan Perry (2, solo in 5th)

The ValleyCats were swept out of northern Massachusetts after the Spinners went off for six in the 2nd.

Angel Macuare allowed those six runs; he went four innings and allowed five hits, walked three, and struck out seven. Luis de Paula threw a 1-2-3 5th, and Valente Bellozo allowed an RBI single, walked two, and struck out three in three innings.

Nathan Perry launched a homer to lead off the 5th. A.J. Lee ripped an RBI double in the 8th and he ended up scoring on an error that allowed Preston Pavlica to reach. Wilyer Abreu went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Tri-City will head home to start a weekend series with Aberdeen. Juan Pablo Lopez will get the start in game one; first pitch is at 7:00 Eastern.

GCL Cardinals 3, GCL Astros 2

W- Inohan Paniagua (1-0)
L- Jervic Chavez (0-1, 1-1 season)
S- Roy Garcia (1)

GCL home runs: None.

That first win continues to elude the Palm Beach 'Stros.

Kyle Serrano, who was assigned to Quad Cities and then promptly sent to the GCL on a rehab assignment, walked one and struck out two in his first inning of the season. Jervic Chavez took over for five innings and he allowed three runs on five hits (two solo homers), walked one, and struck out one. Franny Cobos allowed two hits, walked three, and struck out two in three scoreless innings of work.

The GCL squad got their two runs in the 6th on a sac fly from Sean Mendoza and a Luis Guerrero RBI double. Guerrero went 2-4 on the afternoon.

The Palm Beach 'Stros will have Friday off and they'll get back to it Saturday morning at the Marlins complex.

DSL Astros 9, DSL Red Sox1 2

W- Jeremy Molero (2-0)
L- Gabriel Jackson (0-3)

DSL home runs: None.

A four-run 2nd inning propelled the Dominican 'Stros to the victory. Eleven walks suggest that the pitching was... spotty, but then again, they did allow only two runs and two hits.

Ricardo León and Jeremy Molero started things off with three innings apiece. León walked five and struck out four over three hitless and scoreless innings. Molero allowed a run on a sac fly, a single, walked three, and struck out six. Miguel Padilla walked two and struck out two in two innings and José Betances allowed an RBI single, walked one, and struck out one in the 9th.

Jesús Liranzo opened the scoring with an RBI triple in the 2nd inning. Frank Pérez brought him in with a single, Yohander Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk, and Junior Marte hit a sac fly. Marte hit another sac fly in the 4th and then an error in the 5th allowed Ricardo Toro to score. Marte ripped an RBI double in the 6th and finally, Freddy Guilamo smacked an RBI triple and scored on Pérez's sac fly in the 7th. Martinez finished 3-4 on the day while Pérez went 2-3 and scored on both of Marte's sac flies.

These two teams will play again at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Let's play two in Lowell!

Round Rock 4, San Antonio 2

W- Reymin Guduan (2-1)
L- Miguel Sanchez (2-3)
S- Felipe Paulino (2)

RR home runs: None.

The E-Train scored three runs in the 9th to snatch this game from the Missions' grasp.

José Urquidy threw six shutout innings, allowing five hits, walking two, and striking out nine. Urquidy became the first pitcher in the system to strike out 100 batters this season. Ralph Garza Jr., Reymin Guduan, and Felipe Paulino all pitched an inning. Garza got the 7th and he allowed three hits, one of which was a two-run homer, and struck out two. Guduan walked one and struck out the side in the 8th, and Paulino allowed a hit and struck out the side in the 9th to earn the save.

Jack Mayfield opened the scoring with an RBI single in the 6th inning. Nick Tanielu smacked a one-out double in the 9th, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored the tying run on Josh Rojas' double. Rojas advanced to third on a wild pitch and after A.J. Reed was intentionally walked, he scored the go-ahead run when Jamie Ritchie hit into a fielder's choice. Chas McCormick hit an RBI single for insurance.

The Express and Missions will play game three of this series at 7:05.

Corpus Christi was off

The Hooks will start a four-game series in Amarillo tonight at 7:05.

Salem 4, Fayetteville 2

W- Hunter Smith (1-4)
L- Chad Donato (3-8)
S- Andrew Schwaab (3)

Fayetteville home runs: None.

The Red Sox took this game on the strength of a three-run 7th inning.

Scott Schreiber hit an RBI single in the 6th and Chandler Taylor ripped an RBI double in the 9th. Schreiber and J.J. Matijevic had two hits apiece in this game.

Luis Garcia allowed an unearned run on a sac fly, a single, walked one, and struck out eight in five innings of work. Chad Donato got the last three innings and he allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits, walked one, and struck out five.

Fayetteville heads home to start a four-game series with Myrtle Beach at 7:00 Eastern.

Quad Cities 7, Burlington 5

W- José Alberto Rivera (3-3)
L- Tyler Smith (5-2)

QC home runs: Jeremy Peña (5, solo in 3rd)

The Banditos took this game by withstanding a five-run 4th from the Bees and getting some Houdini-esque escapes from José Alberto Rivera on the mound.

José Bravo allowed five runs on seven hits and struck out seven in four innings of work. Rivera got the last five innings and allowed four hits, walked four, and struck out six. He got out of a bases-loaded, no out jam in the 6th unscathed and then stranded two runners in scoring position in the 7th. A caught stealing got Rivera out of the 8th and he managed to strand two runners to end the game.

Jeremy Peña opened the scoring by whacking a solo homer in the 3rd and Oscar Campos drove in another run by ripping an RBI double. Quad Cities scored three times in the 5th on a wild pitch that allowed Michael Wielansky to score, an Austin Dennis sac fly, and an RBI single from Campos. Peña scored on an error in the 7th and Alex McKenna drove in a run with a groundout in the 8th. Campos went 3-4 on the evening. Peña (solo HR, 3 R, SB) and Ross Adolph (2B, 2 R) both finished 2-4 on the night.

Felipe Tejada takes on Robinson Pina as this series shifts to the Quad Cities for the final two games. First pitch is at 6:35.

Game 1: Lowell 2, Tri-City 1 (8 innings)

W- Kris Jackson (2-0)
L- Hansel Paulino (1-1)

TC home runs: Preston Pavlica (1, solo in 7th)

The ValleyCats tied up game one with a run in the 7th... only to see the Spinners walk off with the victory after scoring in the first extra frame.

Preston Pavlica launched a solo homer in the 7th, his first pro home run, which ended up being the ValleyCats' only scoring play in this game. E.P. Reese and Nathan Perry had two hits apiece.

Jayson Schroeder went four innings and allowed a run on six hits, walked two, and struck out three. Miguel Figueroa was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen in game one and he was excellent as he walked one and struck out three over three scoreless. Hansel Paulino allowed the game-winning hit, a single, to lead off the 8th.

Game 2: Lowell 7, Tri-City 0

W- Hildemaro Requena (2-0)
L- Christian Mejias (0-1)
S- Brendan Nail (2)

TC home runs: None.

The ValleyCats were swept in the doubleheader as they were shut out in game two.

All they got on offense in game two was a Juan Paulino single. Paulino also stole a base, his fourth of the season.

Christian Mejías went 3.2 innings and allowed a run on three hits, walked two, and struck out a career-high ten batters. Michael Horrell got Mejías out of a predicament to end the 4th and he went on to pitch 1.2 innings, allowing three runs (two earned, two inherited runners charged to him) on two hits, walking one, and striking out two. Shea Barry got the final two outs in the 6th inning and he allowed three unearned runs, a bases-clearing triple, and walked two. I think he'd like a do-over for his professional debut.

Angel Macuare gets the start in the series finale and he'll face Yusniel Padrón-Artilles at 7:05 Eastern.

GCL Mets 11, GCL Astros 6

W- Joshua Cornielly (1-0)
L- Whit Drennan (0-1)

GCL home runs: Colin Barber (1, solo in 5th), Nerio Rodriguez (1, solo in 8th)

The Palm Beach 'Stros scored three in the top of the 8th to tie this game at 6... and then the Mets regained control by scoring five in the bottom of the 8th.

Brayan de Paula pitched four innings and allowed two runs on two hits (solo homer), walked two, and struck out four. Diosmerky Taveras was next and he allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, walked two, and struck out two. Whit Drennan and Jherson Pereira both pitched an inning. Well, Drennan came on for the 8th but he failed to record an out in that inning. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and struck out one. Jherson Pereira took ownership of the 8th and allowed four runs (one earned) a hit, walked two, and struck out one.

Nerio Rodriguez singled in the 1st and an error on the play allowed Colin Barber to score. Barber launched his first career home run in the 5th and Nerio followed with an RBI single. Nerio smacked a homer to lead off the 8th and then the GCL squad got two more runs in the inning as Yeuris Ramirez scored on an error following a Yefri Carrillo single. Carrillo came home on a double from José Álvarez. Nerio finished 4-5 on the afternoon and Barber went 2-3.

The Astros will take on the Cardinals at noon Eastern.

DSL Braves 4, DSL Astros 3

W- Osiris Sierra (1-1)
L- Fabricio Reina (0-2)
S- Luis Diaz (1)

DSL home runs: None.

The Dominican 'Stros rally fell just short.

Yohander Martinez scored the DSL squad's first run of the day by stealing home in the 6th. Ricardo Toro hit an RBI single in the 8th and he came around to score on a double from Andrés Monzón.

Fabricio Reina pitched two innings and allowed two runs on a double play and a wild pitch, a single, walked one, and struck out one. Edinson Batista and Daniel Pacheco pitched three innings apiece. Batista walked two and struck out six while Pacheco allowed two runs on three hits, walked one, and struck out three.

The Astros will host the Red Sox 1 at 11:30 AM Atlantic.

Astros Minor League Recaps

Results for Saturday, August 11, 2018

Sorry, I've been out of pocket these past few days because I got buried by work.

Albuquerque 10, Fresno 0

W- Brooks Pounders (1-3)
L- Trent Thornton (8-8)

Fresno home runs: None.

Yeah, I'd rather not touch this one.

On the bright side, the Grizzlies did not end up getting no-hit as Garrett Stubbs doubled to lead off the bottom of the 9th.

Fresno and Albuquerque will conclude this series at 5:05 Pacific.

Corpus Christi 6, Springfield 2

W- Corbin Martin (7-2, 9-2 season)
L- Genesis Cabrera (0-1)
S- Alex Winkelman (4)

CC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (3, 13 season; solo in 1st)

The Hooks got a huge night at the plate from Ronnie Dawson and Corbin Martin continues to truck along with another nice outing.

Martin allowed two runs on four hits, walked one, and struck out eight in his six innings of work. Kit Scheetz was the first man out of the Corpus bullpen and he turned in two no-hit innings, walking two and striking out two. Alex Winkelman worked around a hit to close out the game.

Dawson started things off with a homer to lead off the 1st inning. The Hooks got two in the 2nd inning thanks to RBI doubles from Aníbal Sierra and Dawson. Dawson singled with one out in the 4th and moved up on a base hit from Stephen Wrenn. They both advanced on a balk and Carmen Benedetti hit a sac fly to bring Dawson in. Chas McCormick led off the 8th with a walk and scored the final run of the evening when Lorenzo Quintana ripped a double. Dawson finished 4-5 on the night while Sierra and Abraham Toro both had two hits apiece.

Akeem Bostick will start the series finale and he'll take on Anthony Shew at 2:05.

Frederick 2, Buies Creek 1 in 10 innings

W- Tyler Erwin (4-3)
L- Tommy DeJuneas (0-2, 2-4 season)

BC home runs: None.

The Keys pushed their leadoff runner across in the first extra frame and walked off with a win.

Abdiel Saldaña went five innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits while striking out three. Carson LaRue did not allow a hit in four innings; he walked one and struck out three. Tommy DeJuneas got two strikeouts in the 10th but he also allowed the winning run on two hits.

Jake Meyers drove in Buies Creek's only run with a single in the 3rd inning.

Peter Solomon will face Michael Baumann in the final game of this series. First pitch is at 2:00 Eastern.

Cedar Rapids 9, Quad Cities 6

W- Jordan Balazovic (6-3)
L- Leovanny Rodriguez (4-5)
S- Calvin Faucher (3)

QC home runs: Colton Shaver (13, solo in 6th), Mike Papierski (4, solo in 9th)

An 8-0 deficit proved to be too much for the Banditos to overcome.

Quad Cities scored two runs in each of the innings in which they scored. Miguelangel Sierra ripped a two-run double in the 5th to put them on the board. Colton Shaver led off the 6th with a homer. Jonathan Lacroix got thrown out at third trying to turn a double into a triple, but David Hensley kept things going with a base hit. He moved to third on a single from Chandler Taylor and scored on Sierra's sac fly. Mike Papierski launched a home run to start the 9th and Hensley hit an RBI single with two outs in the inning. Papierski, Hensley, Taylor, and Logan Mattix all finished with two hits on the evening.

Leovanny Rodriguez labored through four innings as he allowed five runs on nine hits (solo and two-run homers) and struck out four. Tim Hardy received a rude welcome to the Midwest League as he allowed four runs on six hits (two-run homer) while striking out three in 1.2 innings. Brendan Feldmann restored some semblance of order to this game from the Banditos' standpoint, but the damage was done. Feldmann allowed a hit, walked two, and struck out four over 2.1 scoreless innings and Humberto Castellanos escaped a bases-loaded predicament in the 9th; he allowed two hits, walked one, and struck out one.

Edgardo Sandoval goes up against Jhoan Duran at 5:15.

Tri-City 8, Vermont 5

W- Felipe Tejada (4-3)
L- Jeferson Mejía (1-1)
S- Austin Hansen (2)

TC home runs: Oscar Campos (2, solo in 5th)

After a topsy-turvy start to this game, the ValleyCats were able to seize control.

Juan Pablo Lopez only recorded two outs in the 1st. He allowed three unearned runs on three hits and struck out one. Jacob Billingsley was the first man out of the Tri-City bullpen and went 2.2 innings, allowing two runs, one of which was an inherited runner that was charged to him, on six hits and struck out four. Felipe Tejada struck out six over 4.2 near-perfect innings; he allowed one of Billingsley's runners to score on a sac fly and also plunked another man. Austin Dennis scored twice and stole a couple of bases, giving him 14 on the season.

29 runs, 27 hits, six home runs. Fortunately, when the dust settled, the Grizzlies emerged on top. Just barely.

The four home run hitters for Fresno also accounted for 14 RBI. The one run that was not driven in came in the 7th when Yordan Alvarez scored on an error following a sac bunt from Garrett Stubbs.

Corpus Christi 4, Tulsa 1

W- Ryan Hartman (10-3)
L- Justin DeFratus (4-4)
S- Akeem Bostick (3)

CC home runs: Ronnie Dawson (2, 12 season; solo in 5th)

The one run that Hartman allowed in his five innings came on a home run in the 4th inning. He allowed three other hits and struck out six. Bostick took it home with four no-hit innings; he walked one and struck out six.

Ryne Birk opened the scoring by ripping a two-run double in the 2nd inning. Ronnie Dawson smacked a solo homer in the 5th and Chas McCormick followed with a single. McCormick then stole second and scored the final run of the evening on an error that allowed Randy César to reach. Dawson and Birk had two hits apiece; McCormick's steal gives him 8 with Corpus Christi and 15 on the season.

Brock Dykxhoorn will take on Dustin May in game two of this series. First pitch is at 7:05.

Buies Creek 5, Down East 1 in 11 innings

W- Enoli Paredes (2-1, 4-4 season)
L- Josh Altmann (0-2)

BC home runs: J.J. Matijevic (13, 16 season; 2-run in 11th)

Down to their final out, the Carolina Stros managed to tie the game and then erupted for four runs in the 11th to win the series opener in Kinston. With this victory, Buies Creek has won the first edition of the Lone Star Series in North Carolina; they currently lead the season series 12-8 with two games remaining.

Buies Creek had the bases loaded in the 8th but Seth Beer struck out to end the threat. Jake Adams led off the 9th and advanced to second on a balk. Cody Bohanek drew a walk and they both advanced on a sac bunt from Carlos Canelón. Jonathan Arauz got a free pass to first to set up a double play anywhere and that prompted the Wood Ducks to make a pitching change. Corey Julks popped out in foul territory for the second out and it was all up to J.J. Matijevic. He fell behind 1-2 but took three straight balls to tie the game. The real fun began in the 11th inning.

Bohanek led off the inning in scoring position and advanced to third on another sac bunt from Canelón. Arauz drew another walk. Down 0-2, Julks put Buies Creek in front with a two-run double and Matijevic provided the cherry with a two-run home run. They won this game despite striking out 20 times. Gabriel Valdez got the start and he allowed the Wood Ducks' one run on five hits and struck out six in five innings. Peter Solomon tagged in to throw four scoreless, allowing two hits and fanning six. Enoli Paredes got the two extra innings and struck out one in a perfect outing (aside from the leadoff runners) to get the win.

Game two of this series will kick off at 7:00 Eastern.
